I have lived in the Ormond/Daytona area my entire life of 38 yrs on this planet and have eaten at almost every chinese place around. I'd always heard Chen You has fairly good food but never tried it though mainly bc of the location. I read the reviews and honestly was scared to death of this lady that's always there and assuming is the owner. I went there at 9:30pm (30 mins before they closed) and I already set myself up for a rude woman and possibly a drug dealer asking me if I wanted anything. I read that it's cash only and thought ok I'll make sure I'm as prepared as I'm going to be and know my order and not modify it, either. I approached a gentleman at the door (the counter doesn't allow you to actually walk inside). I asked him for the General Tso's chicken. He was not rude at all, to my surprise. Now, the lady cooking in the back had "F*CK OFF" stamped across her forehead so I tried to avoid eye contact with her. I ordered, He took my cash and in 5 mins it was ready. I got home about 5 minutes away and was fully prepared for a flying rat or rubbery chicken or whatever the Chinese gods had in store for me. I was pleasantly surprised to find my food was piping hot, fresh, and tasty. The portions were good size too and spring roll was absolutely amazing and crunchy. All of it was fresh and very much so up to my standards of quality from a place like this especially 30 mins before they closed. The one and only, and I wouldn't even say complaint, I have is the rice I was given had a sort of slight taste of what seemed like the pan had been previously burned up and was used for my rice. But, again, it was 30 mins before they closed so I can't really blame them too harsh on that. Other than that, I will definitely be...
Read moreThe people who run this are amongst some of the kindest restaurant owners I’ve met in Daytona. Finding genuinely delicious and well-priced food at restaurants is growing harder and harder and this is a restaurant that never does anything BUT exceed my expectations. The prices are super good given the huge portions I’ve received. I don’t typically care for Chinese food but Chen You does it differently in the best way possible. It’s to the point that they seem to have my voice recognized because of the amount of times I’ve come here. I’ve never liked chicken fried rice and the chicken fried rice here is not only tolerable but delicious. The establishment is always very clean compared to others as well. I tried the sweet and sour chicken last week and that was amazingly tasty and also had a large portion relative to the price. Yesterday I tried the beef lo mein and I’m back again today to get a second helping plus some other food for my friends.
Again: great value, great food, great people. These are the kind of mom and pop shops/restaurants I want to support and will continue to support...
Read moreI had higher hopes with this place having more stars and better reviews then the other places near us. I will never go here again after trying this place. Ordered four lunch specials (2 generals, 1 orange chicken and 1 chicken lo mein) , crab Rangoon and soup. There is practically no meat in the specials and barely any wontons in the soup yet we were charged $50! It costs us less to go out to eat at Denny's or apple bees/chili's then it did for these "specials" and my orange chicken they even wrote "orange" on the box yet they all look exactly same and taste like general. Sticking with my regular Chinese place from now on because these portions and prices do not match and are...
