Gallagher's pizza has 3 apparently distinct locations, but I have only been to one; De Pere. As far as I can tell, it is just your standard pizza joint.
They hold pizza buffets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with the Wednesday one being $5.55 a person, and this usually draws a hefty crowd. Not bad.
The decor/atmosphere is what you expect, heavy Italian infused with a modern touch with football memorabilia lining the walls. A small arcade sits in the corner, containing a heavy piece of my childhood known as Area51. The music is typical pop garbage that you'd hear in a walmart, etc.
The staff is mainly composed of college kids, which is to be expected, but a few gems are found amongst the stones. The kitchen staff I found to be humorous, as well as surprisingly sanitary.
The food, the equally important part of a food place, is a heavily loaded hit or miss. It's either a grand slam or a visit to the toilet, and once I discover the secret to determining which, I would be a better man for it. The Italian beef sandwich, and its meatier brother the combo sandwich are fantastic. The alfredo is hit or miss, depending on how fresh the sauce is. The pizza is traditionally thinner crust, crispy, and quite good when made fresh. A telltale sign of chlorine from the water in town gives away a frozen pizza or at least one that has been sitting for a little while.
Variety is the spice of life, and gallagher's has a significant amount of variety. A jack of all trades, et cetera, but surprisingly good at all it does. Nothing really stands out, however, as the price point for what you get leaves more...
Read moreOk, so...first visit to this place was horrible. Gave it 6 mos and decided to try it again. Bad choice. Went in for the lunch buffet. First, $13 for the buffet is way more than what this is worth. Waitress greeted us, asked if we were doing the buffet. Took our drink order and NEVER came back. Another waitress overheard us talking and took our drink order a second time.
Now for the bad part of the visit. They offer soup. Great, but barely Luke warm soup just isn't my thing. Salad bar...(we were there half way through the hours of the buffet ) lettuce looked ok for the most part. Cheese... basically empty container. Tomatoes were cut for sandwiches not salads...they were so thin that you couldn't cut them and have pieces to put on your salad. Cucumber looked good, but tasted like whatever they were in the fridge next to on the shelf.
On to the "hot" food. Yeah, the first buffet area looked promising. Unfortunately, cold chicken drummues/wings are not my thing. Spaghetti had zero water and was dried out. Bread sticks, they were buttered when hot. Then the butter got cold and had formed clumps. Ok, so decided to try pizza, on the next buffet cart. A big ol NO there too. Pizza might have been decent, had it not been sitting there for at least 45 minutes. Cold greasy cheese just isn't my thing.
Sad to say, but the best part of this whole meal were the pre-made cookies.
I won't be spending my money at this place again. They very clearly don't have a clue what it takes to run a buffet, nor what decent customer service is about. Sad, but not entirely sure how they stay...
Read moreWe ordered a 14" Veggie specialty pizza with hand-tossed crust and the super appetizer combo over the phone for carry-out. Not only was our order correct, but it was also ready on time & hot upon pick-up! The quality of the pizza here is quite high and well worth the cost. Overall, I would recommend and I will definitely be returning!
EDIT: I returned here for the pizza lunch buffet. There was a pizza clearly marked cheese, and it looked like cheese. My husband is allergic to meat, so he took a couple slices (and so did I). However, the pizza had a ton of pepperoni on it (hidden underneath the cheese).... My husband couldn't bring himself to eat anymore because he felt sick. That kind of insolence and carelessness is absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable. Some other important critiques: The meat pasta sauce dripped into the spaghetti noodles so they weren't edible for my husband, and the baked penne pasta had meat sauce too. Also found a small insect in the pasta. There need to be more vegetarian options, and they need to do a significantly better job with separating meat from meatless options. Because of this entire incident, I changed my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars.
I will say, the waitress who we talked to was extremely friendly and apologetic (and it wasn't her fault obviously) and comped us for our meal which was very nice. She was extremely professional and we were all very impressed - 5 stars for...
