If you're familiar with Ford Road, then you know just how busy it is nearly all of the time. If you frequent any business that is on Ford Road, then you know exactly how busy that business can get. This Dairy Queen location is no exception to that.
There are many Dairy Queen locations throughout this area of Metro Detroit, so if visiting one that you'll almost always have to wait at isn't your thing, maybe steer clear of this location.
I would like to start off by saying that I have only ever been through the drive thru here so I can't and won't be speaking on anything having to do with the inside of this location.
To be completely honest and transparent, that fact that there will almost always be a wait when you come here isn't the worst part, though I do believe it plays a part in the quality of Ice Cream that you may receive when you get up to the window to get your order—but let's back up for just a second. If you've ever been here, you know that the absolute worst part about this location, is the location itself. It sits right on a corner (where a side street meets Ford Road), and the area is small in general so it doesn't leave much room at all for any sort of line to develop in the drive thru area. What little of a parking lot area there is, becomes congested almost immediately if cars start to build up in the drive thru. You can also access the parking lot/drive thru from both the side street, and Ford Road which creates a whole other issue when it starts to get busy.
Cars can form a line going out of the parking lot and into the street on the side street, or in my case when I last stopped by, the line will start to back up and run into Ford Road, which as you might imagine can be quite dangerous. When this happens, it also makes it incredibly difficult for other vehicles to get in and out of the parking lot, and this can become very frustrating, very quickly. The other thing about the drive thru, is that it's basically a lane or a lane and a half that wraps around the restaurant, so let's say you want to get out of line, or you forgot your wallet, or you have a screaming baby in the backseat that you need to tend to—it may or may not be incredibly difficult (depending on the type of vehicle you're driving) to get out of line and make your way to the exit. There just isn't a lot of extra room to navigate through or around the drive thru in general. This shouldn't be a deal breaker, but it should be something that you are aware of.
Okay back to the reason why you've stopped here to begin with, the Ice Cream (unless you stopped for those chicken chunk things, but that's on you because I'm not too sure about those). The quality of the Ice Cream here seems to be a bit lacking—though I suppose it could have just been this particular time I was there. What I actually think it is, is a combination of how busy this location is, and the consistency of Dairy Queen Ice Cream to begin with (it's just softer and melts more quickly than other brands in my opinion). Couple that with it being busy enough for the workers to try and get ahead and maybe prepare your order before you're up to the window, leaving more time for the Ice Cream to start melting before it hits your hands. While we're on the subject of employees, they're friendly, quick (as they can be), professional, and are good with order accuracy as I myself have never received an incorrect order.
When all is said and done, I don't come here a lot, mostly because I don't eat a ton of Ice Cream, but also because of the issues that were aforementioned. Because of the volume of Dairy Queen locations in the area, it just makes more sense for me to venture to the other ones and save myself the hassle of visiting this one. This location's biggest downfall is simply how it is laid out, and that is unfortunate...
Read moreUsually this is one of the best locations around, however, not all the time. Sometimes they don't mix the blizzards well, or dont put enough of the ingredients in the blizzard. Sometimes they really skimp on the sprinkles. It really depends on the attitude of the person working, especially if you go inside, it seems. But generally, going through the drive through, its very good. I wish they changed their flavors more. But, that's more of a Dairy Queen as a whole kind of thing, not a location specific matter. The prices at this location can be higher, however, its worth it because the other Dairy Queen location in the area usually do a very poor job so I'd rather pay a but more and have it made correctly by going to this one.
My family and I went here for Mother's Day and I was really disappointed. My daughter and I both got the Royal Choco Brownie Blizzard, we got a cheesecake blizzard, a small vanilla in a bowl with sprinkles & extra sprinkles, and a mini PB and puppy chow blizzard. The PB puppy chow had no puppy chow and tastes like straight PB, our two brownie blizzards were super inconsistent - one was very vanilla-y, the other too chocolate-y but the chocolate wasn't right, like they used the malt chocolate or something, and neither had the chocolate center. And the $2 worth of sprinkles? Literally...
Read moreThe only reason im giving it 3 stars and not 1 is because usually the day shift is on point. Fast, polite and accurate. But this is the second time this happened so I decided to leave a review. First time Iplaced a mobile order got there and they hadnt even did the online order yet.
