Leo's Coney Island — Restaurant in Dearborn Heights

Oi I don't ever leave reviews because I don't really care, you gotta do a lot to make me mad, and it just isnt worth the time but today man lol listen...The culinary world is a tough place, but hiring/training half-baked employees BOH and FOH is inexcusable. More hands doesn't equate quality. Here, front of house, you're always met with attitude. Many of the front staff have nasty attitudes if you don't leave a tip, and you will not get what you ask for no matter how polite you are. Honey, if I'm coming in and getting take out, I am not tipping you. In house, if you're busting ass bringing food and drinks, bussing tables, dealing with customers with a shit attitude, keeping a clean business, all while managing your tickets so you can get your proper tips at the end of your shift so your boss doesn't jip you, oh yeah. You're getting some extra help, I know your not paid well for what you deal with and I'm thankful for your hardwork especially when you're doing your best, and still keeping some semblance of good service. But when you didn't do anything besides put items in a bag and cash me out. You don't tip fastfood employees, and degrade them in society for the very same so why would I tip you when you have an even worse attitude AND you see marginally LESS people? Y'all need Gordon Ramsay at this rate because I know based on the food I get, the kitchen is festering. Any guest should be able to go into a restaurant and trust that they won't get sick due to the negligence of the kitchen staff.

Had to replace my food because the chef doesn't know the difference between rare, and well done. Bro, it's a burger. The pickles were rotten, if you see rot, throw it out and check your product. The fries? Rock hard. It cut the inside of my cheek. (I don't care about that, but you might, I like crispy food) But even I have a point where crispy is too much, but I'm not going to complain because it isn't worth your time or mine, and it's a potato. It's fine, but when my protein couldn't be cooked how I asked, and the veggies have rot set in where has your care gone? If you hate your job so much find a new venture, spread your wings. Don't make other chefs look bad because you don't have heart in the food your producing. Food is an experience, so is a restaurant. It's a wonderful place when it runs well, but it has to run well in every corner. That being said, props to the waitress who was on my side about the raw burger, you are my queen. I didn't get her name as she was heading out, but this woman is an example of someone who cares about what they're doing, plus she's always been nice To the man in the kitchen with the attitude who wanted to be loud, it was raw when I got it home and if you actually know about food when warm meat sits, rests and oxidizes it looks more cooked then it is. My replacement was great, good produce and the meat cooked. Just do it right the first time so you don't get mad at me for bringing it back when it's bad. Every since I moved close to Dearborn heights this has been my Coney Island. Their omelettes are the best and their chicken pita. This particular time I called to place an order and my mom wasn’t sure of what we wanted so the owner of the business was the one who answered and I guess he was frustrated because of my mom being indecisive which is understandable but working in customer service you do not hang up on the person especially being the owner. So I call back and a sweet young lady answered and I said that someone had just hung up on me and she was like oh that was the owner so I told her I was on my way up there to just talk to them in person. Once I got there I asked the man was he the one that hung up on me and he tried justifying it. He said I couldn’t hear you so I hung up then I said you could of been more professional with you being a business owner and he was like nonchalant and said I was rude to the young lady that answered. I apologized to the young lady because I was not trying to be rude to her which I don’t think I was but you can’t say how you make someone else feel. Then the owner threw away the food I ordered before my moms food and told me to leave. I will never go back to that place. The fact that I work in the medical field and I know how important it is to have excellent customer service he failed miserably!! He could of handled the situation so much better. He could of apologized about hanging up then asked me to clarify what my mother wanted but instead he was defense from the start and was very unprofessional. Few months ago we went my friend had one of those burger cravings to her disappointment it was a premade frozen patty with no seasoning. Today we go again and the quality of the food was much better. An older woman sat us and got our drinks she was sweet as pie and I was excited I knew she would give great service. Next thing I know we had a different waitress my friend said yeah she said they were short staffed (which I’m guessing is the hours issue since Covid staffing waitress is harder because of pay and tips) I can tell this is one those waitresses that hates her job or is overworked and having a bad day. She stood a table away to take our order after seeming in patient that we took our time to order. She checked quickly on us once and everyone around us not in a personal manner. Didn’t check if we needed refills or boxes after dropping our check at our table. We even waited to see if she would come check finally we paid and left. Then I noticed her very unique name and realized it might be someone I knew from a long time ago. That would give me this type of service on purpose. Then after reading these reviews even if it was her and she did or didn’t remember me she would fit a lot of these reviews. You have to work a job your happy with especially to be a waitress. You have to find joy in the service industry. Hard days happen but I hope people remember to fill their own cup once in awhile and enjoy life and it will overflow naturally.
