Here's the thing, the baklava is the best in the entire metropolitan Detroit area. I know bc my thing is to try various bakeries (from Livonia to Sterling Heights I have tried many); and prior to today I would pop in from time to time driving 20 mins in one direction to get it. However my concern is the customer service. And today was the last straw for me. As I stood in line I attentively watched how other customers politely and diligently were attended to; however when it was my turn, the first young lady behind the counter decided to start looking at pictures in a calendar that was on the counter. This lasted longer than necessary when there's still a line behind me. So bc I saw I was deliberately being ignored I asked a necessary question about a pastry bc I have food allergies. So as she went to the back for the answer the next lady came forth to take my order. In the middle of my service she began to engage in a very lengthy conversation with the gentleman behind me without even asking me is there anything else I wanted or if I had any other questions. Then what I thought was totally disrespectful. Then after I paid I was not handed my items, they were simply left on the counter and the woman walked away. I was not Told have a nice day, merry Christmas nor happy holidays. It's Dec 22! I actually had to reach over the muffins on the counter to get my box of pastries. So because I was able to maintain my composure during this horribly and blatantly racist treatment; I'll be quite blunt to future customers who look like me. If you are the shade of a paper bag or darker. Save your money bc the people operating do not value you or your dollars. And with that- go where you are...
Read moreFor 40 years I’ve been walking here for pizza, pepperoni rolls, bread and of course, treats. Today unfortunately will be my last visit. Of course changes have occurred over these 40 years. From ownership to ingredients. But today’s pizza, (half of it was from yesterday) was just dreadful. Yesterday’s slices were cardboard of course but even today’s? Doughy, barely a drop of sauce on the entire slice. I kept taking bites searching for any type of flavor. It made me so paranoid, I took a covid taste. Come to find out, it’s not covid. Its capri. I’ve been disappointed repeatedly here with many things over the last couple owners but this was my last time. After growing up and well into adulthood eating virginias brand of pizza? Anybody would be disappointed with today’s brand of capri but today’s pizza is inexcusable. The real problem is that it’s happened too many times too often and too consistently. I’m done and I will never miss you capri. Truth is, I’ve been missing u since...
Read moreFinally made my return pilgrimage to Capri. I'm a proud East Dearborn boy, born and raised. The bakery's founders, John and Virginia Errigo, were neighbors back on Reuter Street during my early boyhood in the '60's. Of course, I had to have a pepperoni roll. Good as ever. Brought a nostalgic tear to my eye. Browsing some framed press clippings before I left, I saw Mr. and Mrs. Errigo have gone to their reward. It made me happy to hear the business is still in good, family hands. For folks like me (old enough to remember when), the spirit of Dearborn speaks to a perfect confluence of place and time in middle class America. And the success, longevity and timeless feel of Capri Bakery continues to stand as a monument...
