Our first visit to Aldo Yo's left a lot to be desired. We arrived on a Saturday around 4:45 PM. The restaurant was relatively empty, with only two other couples dining. We were greeted and seated promptly by the hostess.
We started with drinks and appetizers while browsing the menu for entrées. As soon as the appetizers arrived, we noticed a cockroach on the floor. While not ideal, we tried to be understanding and carried on. After finishing our appetizers, we placed our entrée orders.
About 40 minutes later, we noticed another cockroach—this time crawling on the wall behind the hostess. We quietly brought it to her attention. She acknowledged it and informed our server, who I believe was also the manager. She came over, apologized, and assured us they were aware.
When our entrées arrived, my dish was completely incorrect, and my wife’s came with the wrong side. The server/manager apologized again and asked if I wanted my meal remade. Honestly, at that point, I was too frustrated to wait any longer. I ordered another Peroni and ate what was brought to us—until I realized I’d been served a non-alcoholic version without being informed as the server didn't know either. I only noticed halfway through.
The chef later came out to apologize and offered to remake the meal, but by then, the experience had already soured. Honestly, the chef should have just remade the correct entree without asking. Then, a third cockroach appeared—this time on the wall near another table—which was our breaking point. We asked for the check and prepared to leave.
To our surprise, nothing was comped or discounted—not even the incorrect dish or the mistaken drink. Just apologies.
Before leaving, I stopped by the men’s restroom to wash my hands and was shocked. The vanity and sink were pulled from the wall, the mirror was leaning on the ground, and the entire bathroom looked like it was mid-demolition (see photo).
I really dislike writing negative reviews, and to be fair, the food that was correct tasted good. But between the repeated pest sightings, the wrong orders, the damaged bathroom, and no effort to make it right, this visit was extremely...
Read moreDelightful experience at a new Italian restaurant in DeBary. Yes, I'm always willing to drive to new places. Aldos is actually just a few miles down on the left hand side once you cross over the bridge from Sanford.
Chef Aldo is from Naples. The food is fantastic!
He has only been open a month. It is a small place and when we walked in the center table was filled with Italians speaking Italian! Chef Aldo was chatting with them and greeted us. I got a hug because he remembered me from the previous restaurant he was in.
Our server, Bella came over quickly to ask about the drinks. I held off on wine until I was ready to order my entree.
I asked Aldo about the specials. One of the appetizer specials was grilled eggplant, with a fried mozzarella ball and prosciutto. It was very good. My other guest opted for fresh made meatballs (Polpette Al Suigo) They were tender, not dense and flavorful. The sauce was picked up nicely with the complimentary bread.
I chose the special Ragu Napolitano. This is literally sublime. The red sauce had been cooked for hours with meatballs, sausage, short ribs, pork all over fresh rigatoni. There was so much meat. It fell off the bone and I can't wait for leftovers because I just know it's even going to taste better tomorrow.
The lasagna ala Bolognese got high reviews. The scallopini Alla parmigiana with requested bolognese sauce was very good. The veal was tender and flavorful. The remark from my guest was the sauce was better than our local Italian go to. You could get fresh spaghetti or vegetable with it. The spaghetti normally gets left behind but here the entire plate was cleaned.
I had the Montepulicino by the glass. It was a perfect compliment to the meal.
Chef Aldo brought us complimentary prosecco zabaione.
We ordered the house made panna cotta and eclairs. So sinful!
He then topped it off by bringing us a complimentary glass of prosecco. He gave a glass to everyone in the restaurant.
Overall experience was just wonderful!
It is worth the drive to DeBary for...
Read moreDinner for our party of four was a comedy of errors. We were the first group in the restaurant that night. We ordered two appetizers and each of us ordered a main course. One of the appetizers arrived along with one of the main courses. We politely explained the mistake. Although we waited, the second appetizer never arrived and one of us had to eat our main course while the others patiently waited for theirs. Then the other meals came out - one at a time - with about a 10-15 minute wait in between each one. It was like we took turns eating dinner. When the last person’s dinner finally arrived, it was incorrect (they brought fettuccine Alfredo when the order was for pasta and salmon). The waitress took it away and 5 minutes later brought out something different - that was wrong too. The chef/owner then came to our table and we had to show him on the menu what was ordered. He was visibly upset with his waitress and walked away. A while later he came back with the correct meal on the third try. As a kind gesture, he clearly said that dish would be complimentary. But, when the check arrived, we were charged for the two appetizers and all four main dishes. When we told the waitress we never received the second appetizer and one of the dinners had been “comped” by the owner , she brought the owner to our table. He acted surprised that we were “claiming” he offered to comp one of the meals, and he said he “personally delivered our second appetizer to our table” and pointed at my wife and said he “gave it to her”. We told him he was mistaken but he argued with us! He mumbled something to the waitress and stormed off without an apology. They finally got our bill corrected, but took forever to take our payment so we could leave. Overall the food was good but the owner doesn’t seem to have enough help, so the service and overall experience was not good. Probably...
