This is tucked away in one of the older plazas where Enterprise and Volusia Avenue intersect. My wife and I "discovered" it because she was in the mood for sashimi and we looked for something close by. Normally we go to Fujiyama when we want Japanese, but this place popped up in our search and we gave it a try. I am so glad that we did. The food was a cut above your typical Japanese or Asian restaurant, and the service was both personal and attentive. Compared to Red Bowl and Fujiyama, both local to our area, this was the better experience - and we have been frequent patrons of the other two restaurants.
My wife's meal was bento style with tempura, sushi, soup, salad, rice and 14 pieces of sashimi. Except for the rice and some of the sushi (California roll style) my wife finished her entire meal. She raved about the sashimi, which in her opinion was superior in quality and freshness to Red Bowl's and Fujiyama's offerings. I had the pork katsu bento plate and every morsel was prepared perfectly. Their bento plates come in small and large sizes. I opted for the small and it was more than enough food. The large would have been more than I would eat even if I were starving.
A word about the soup. Nearly all Japanese style restaurants serve something similar, but more as an obligatory afterthought. The soup we were served was a masterpiece. Simple, but full of flavor and probably the best I have had outside of Japan and Hawaii. The salad was nothing fancy, but extremely fresh, Also you are not stuck with ginger dressing. I had poppyseed dressing with mine. My wife, though, stuck with the tried and true ginger and even that was a cut above the dressing the competition serves.
Our overall dining experience was pleasurable. It did not have the chic decor of either Red Bowl or Fujiyama, but it more than made of for that in food quality...
Read moreMy husband and I with our 2 children went here tonight. We have been here 1 time before and it was a great experience. Tonight we ordered bento boxes and 3 sushi rolls. I asked for mayo and eel sauce on top. I can see the mistake on my part when the sushi came out with regular mayo on top. I even offered to pay for another because I can see the confusion but I meant spicy mayo no regular mayo. 30 minutes later they brought us the same plate with spicy mayo just sloppy on the top. We now we're getting upset because it still had the mayo. When the waitress brought it back to the guy behind the sushi bar, he threw the plate down turned around and punched the wall. Then proceeded to call us "fu**$&% as$^0/÷#" I have never had such bad customer service and I let that be known. You do not treat your customers that way because the second time you messed up the food. The waitress told me she has been there 3 years and that is the OWNER of the restaurant and he does this all the time!!!! She said she gets scared and is a nervous wreck when he acts out, then causing her to mess up her job. Not to mention myself and my daughter could barley make it out of the restaurant without using the restroom! I know (TMI). I would not recommend this place to my...
