As a former employee at Subway, I had experienced several racial experiences that made working here severely uncomfortable for me. Working in customer service, the customer is always right, friendless , a welcoming personality and environment is always needed in order to produce a healthy working environment for everyone. In my case, a customer told me that he didnât want me to make his sub and the assistant manager, Stephanie Rising, said nothing. She just kept her head down and handled the customers in front of me. I asked him if he wanted me to change my gloves or get another bread and he just kept on saying he didnât want me touching his sub. And the assistant manager said nothing. I proceeded to take off my gloves and head to the back because I couldnât believe that happened to me. Another instance took place where we had ties hanging around the store for Fatherâs Day, and one of the customers said, âDo you guys have this so you can hang people?â and he laughed. The store manager, Rebecca (Becky) Simpson, laughed right along with him and said âYeah, just some of the customers!â I was completely uncomfortable and left speechless as I couldnât believe my manager was joking around about hanging people at work. The assistant manager, Stephanie Rising, also referred to me as a âcolored girlâ when a customer complimented me. Iâve tried to speak to Rebecca âBeckyâ Simpson about these encounters and she told me I shouldâve apologized and continue to say, âYes sirâ and continue to interact with them despite how their comments made me feel. I didnât expect her to understand, but her response as a leader and manager, took me by surprise.
I am an incredibly intelligent and brilliant young woman, but Rebecca âBeckyâ Simpson, talked to me with little respect and no class. Although I dealt with customers that werenât entirely nice to me, I always continued to do my job. Becky would speak down on me in front of customers and lightly encouraged me with her backhanded compliments. I believed she hired me for diversity, however, even with me there, she just became apart of the daily taunt and insults. Her strong personality wasnât uplifting as an employee at Subway. I can honestly say Iâm glad that I donât have to hear her lightly bully me and make fun of the way I spoke.
As a person of color, I was uncomfortable working in this establishment and managers that are more inclusive, understanding, educated about people of color, and managers that have respect for their employees should be leading this store. Rebecca âBeckyâ Simpson and Stephanie Rising were uncomfortable to work with and never had my back when customers openly made racial slurs and statements to me, in...
Read moreRestaurant is always clean, but the lettuce always looks bad like itâs been sitting out for a day before serving it. I also feel like cheese should be considered a topping. I have allergies and usually get double meat to make up for the lack of toppings I can have, but to charge someone almost $11 for a half filled thing of flatbread is wild. Then, rudely say âI have to charge you extra for the cheeseâ âI donât make the rulesâ in a condescending manner is also rude. Especially when she sprinkled a very little amount of cheese on to begin with! The weird part about all of it is I always order the same sandwich everytime and the price is constantly changing to. Just seems like another way for subway to participate in price gauging and being sneaky about how they charge you in general. Check your receipt for sure!
If thatâs the case subway should go ahead and charge for ALL toppings âextraâ not just cheese. I use to love coming here, but will happily visit a different location as some of the employees seem irritated and annoyed by you asking for extra anything to begin with. It feels very rushed when...
Read moreThis Subway used to be good when the two older sweet ladies worked there. Now, not so much. Tonight, they got our order wrong even though we ordered it online with everything in writing through their app. The guy who answered the phone said, in order to make it right, Iâd have to come back to the restaurant. I had asked for a free sandwich next time we order from them. I live a long way from that subway and Iâm not driving back because of their mistake. They need to work out a way to fix mistakes that shows more respect to the customers. If theyâre advanced enough to have an app, they should be advanced enough to have a system that helps customers when the restaurant messed up the order without the customer having to come all the way back to the store. We will be going to the one on Saxon from now on, if we even decide to keep being...
