Service was quick and helpful, food was okay. I was just expecting a little more, I suppose, seeing how packed this place seems to be, much of the time.
The food, atmosphere, price, etc. were nothing spectacular. I feel that I could have made it as-good or better at home for much cheaper - even out of a frozen box dinner. (Everything is, of course, but there's a scale of how much it's really worth it to get food at a place for their price/quality.) Aside from that, I've had much larger portions of similar dishes that tasted way better or less bland, for the same price or cheaper, from other places, in the past.
We had, between us: the shrimp scampi, a calzone, and fettuccini alfredo, preceded by garlic knots and followed by cheesecake and canolis. Bit of a variety. The noodles with the scampi were flavorless. The shrimp was good, but it almost turned bland when mixed with the noodles - the person who ordered it decided to only eat the shrimp. The alfredo was pretty decent, but that's hard to screw-up so long as you throw a ton of cheese in it, honestly. I thought the calzone was okay, but the one of us who ordered it wasn't a fan - it did have a strange taste about it, that I don't know if it may be under or overcooked. All of this food was definitely edible/palatable, certainly, but not what was expected or what felt fitting of price.
The garlic knots could have had much more flavor - as is, it was just pricey bread. Bread is good and hard to mess up, but the garlic knots we had were not worth their price. The canolis were..okay, but, again, not quite as good as they should have been, especially given the price. Same goes for the cheesecake, which..was very obviously previously frozen. ~$5 for a slice of frozen cheesecake? No thank you. That was probably the final nail in it, for us, to chalk this up as a 'pass' in the future.
Edit: We went during a Monday evening. Seeing other reviews, it appears that you really should hit this during lunch hours for those lunch menu prices. Don't bother with evenings, except possibly Friday...
Read moreWe tried this restaurant for the first time and were terribly disappointed. It took 35 minutes from the time our order was placed to get spaghetti and chicken alfredo. When our order arrived my spaghetti was room temperature. The meatballs were cold and tough. The sauce was barely warmer than room temperature. They didn’t drain the spaghetti very well either because my plate was full of water. I watched three patrons get up and leave while we were there. They lost the order of the folks seated next to us. I felt for the servers because they were really attentive but the kitchen was letting them down. We will go to Francesco’s right down the road from now on since it is significantly better. I would guess Alfonso’s was having atypical problems this particular night because if our experience is representative of their normal quality they would be out of business. When the young lady at the register asked about our meal, I politely told her that we were not pleased with our visit. I don’t take out the frustrations on the staff that are not responsible and the manager was apparently not interested in what was happening that night. They discounted the meal but I would rather pay full price for good food. (So that I don’t give the impression that it was a total waste of money- please note that the garlic...
Read moreUnfortunately, I will not be back to give this place a second try. I ordered the Spaghetti Bake that was on special today for $7.50. It also comes with a side of garlic bread which is like the kind you get in the frozen section of a grocery store. The food was good. But while I was eating, I did overhear a gentleman a table across from me complain that there was a hair in his food. I lost my appetite after that. I had told my server that I also wanted a Mich Ultra. I never got my beer and upon receiving my ticket, I noticed why. She thought I had said "meatball" instead of Mich Ultra. The new server said, "She's hard of hearing." While I was eating, she never came back to check on me. Another server was the one who gave me my ticket and I showed her that not only did I get charged $8.50 for the Spaghetti Bake that was supposed to be on special but that I was charged for a meatball that I didn't order. She did say, "Well, I mean, I can take a dollar off for you." I said no big deal, paid and left. I would consider placing a to-go order in the future but upon reading the reviews for that, I'll pass.
The food score is a 93. The server was eating her Chinese food at the bar counter. Servers & cooks not wearing masks at all or...
