Update: She blocked me on facebook.
She knew we used that picture from her facebook because she reposted it from that customer. She went out of her way to block me and my friend...thats so unprofessional....now one star....now i actually dislike you and wont recomend you or spend money with you ever again.
I can search her business from anyone else's account or on a browser, but not from my own profile. aka- im blocked. Mel's Sweet Treats has great treats. Especially her cookies. However I know that she runs out of cookies quickly. Because of this, I showed up at 10:05am. There was a man in front of me and my friend in the line. A second worker came around to help us. She asked what we wanted and there were 5 Banana Pudding cupcakes left. My friend asked for the 5 remaining ones. The woker pulled out the cookies and then the man infront of us heard we wanted them and then asked the worker that was helping him if he could have 2 of the cookies that was just pulled out for us. The worker got them for him because the other worker didnt tell her otherwise. The worker didnt mention anything to us until we got towards the end and saw there were 3 Banana Pudding cookies in our box. My friend asked where the other 2 was and the worker said the man asked for them and there was no more to be made. If this was any other scenerio, I might be irriated, but would understand, as I would feel like a hog buying up all the cookies. BUT THIS MAN BOUGHT AT LEAST 100 COOKIES. They didnt do a catering thing for him, at least not for his second order. I think they did for his first one. I wish they would have asked him to do a catering for his second purchase. (When catering, they generally use a new batch of food specifically prepared for the customer. They don't typically cut into the food that customers normally eat.)
Anyways, im dissapointed that a man who ordered over 100 cookies was given the cookies that we asked for first. And of course more wasnt going to be made, which is crazy because it was 10:12am when they said they were sold out.
Mel, I have read the replies to your customers and you seem to throw out all of the concerns your customers say, even though they have a repeption of the same complaints. I would suggest implementing better management of either how to order cookies or to make more in general. It's just pretty wacky, for example, to go to a donut store, but they dont have any donuts or coffee wihtin minutes of opening. Also with you telling customers to call before coming, I heard the phone ring 3 times in a row and no one answered. You can have someone from the back answer, or answer the phone and ask them to hold or if you can call back. Your busy, I get it, but to have a reputable buisness, you have to manage your buisness better. This is all coming from contructive critism, as I do not hate your buisness, but I wish for it to improve.
PS for people who werent there- this i the guy who ordered...
Read moreGot a couple treats from this shop a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
This place is located in a more residential part of Decatur. I was surprised to find it in the old Whisk'd location -- RIP to Whisk'd; I loved that restaurant. Street parking only but the street is quiet and it's easy to pop in and out.
Inside there's a huge array of confections: classic chocolates like turtles, chocolate covered pretzels, marshmallows, etc., as well as fresh baked cookies and a somewhat startling amount of freeze dried candies. I know that's sort of having a moment right now, but WOW there was a lot of freeze dried stuff to choose from. I don't dislike it but I prefer chocolatey treats so I skirted around the big display.
I came about 1.5 hours before closing and will admit the selection (other than freeze dried) was a little sparse. I'm glad they're not letting products go to waste, but in the future, definitely come early if you want to ensure you get everything. More than one customer asked/called in for something only to be turned away while I was shopping around. Of course, the holidays might also have something to do with very high demand.
Anyway, I wound up leaving with two cookies (only about four varieties were available when I arrived -- I took a chocolate chip and a brown butter cookie), three chocolate covered pretzels, and one pecan turtle. The service was limited to being rung up at the cash register, but the employee was nice in our limited interaction.
My husband and I enjoyed all the treats over the following days! The chocolate was smooth and rich on pretzels and pecans, the caramel chewy and satisfying. The pecans and pretzels were both crispy and fresh -- no problems with staleness here.
The cookies were good, too, though perhaps a tiny touch oily. I liked the brown butter better but both were enjoyable! They're the perfect size to share.
I'd definitely return...
Read moreJust tried to post this on Facebook and was immediately blocked from their page and I canât find any record of my post. This is in response to Melâs being voted one of the top 10 bakeries in Alabama. I was working for instacart in 2021. I accepted an order from this establishment for 14 packages of nestle crunch bites from Publix on Beltline Rd in Decatur, Alabama. I arrived at Publix to discover that they only had 8 of the requested 14 packages requested in stock. I attempted to message the customer asking if they wanted to cancel the order or accept the number they had in stock. I never received a response. I delivered the amount I was able to procure to the establishment. I knocked on the door ( they were closed), I attempted to call and message the number on file with no response. I left the items at the door of the business as instructed on the order. I was rewarded by them removing the whole $2 tip on the order and a negative review that impacted my ability to get orders for weeks on instacart. I respect support for local businesses. But I am disappointed in the response from a business that relies as heavily on community support as a gig worker trying to make a...
