TOUS les JOURS — Restaurant in Deerfield Township

This place gave me a bit of nostalgia at first from my time living in Korea a few years ago since Tous les jours originated there, but after today, it’s pretty clear it’s not actually run by Koreans — especially based on how they handle customer service.

A few weeks ago, they had a promo for roll cakes: buy one, get the second 50% off (for different flavors). I bought a castella roll cake and a matcha roll cake, and the discount applied just fine. Today, I saw the same offer was still on, so I picked out the same two cakes — but this time they told me the deal only works if you buy two of the same flavor, which made no sense.

I mentioned my previous experience, and they said they'd check with the manager. I ended up awkwardly standing there while the employee texted the manager, then literally held their phone up to my face to show the response without even saying a word. It felt uncomfortable and kind of rude. I wasn’t trying to argue or get something for free, but the way it was handled made me feel like I was in the wrong, even though I wasn’t.

As for the quality, honestly, a lot of their baked goods don’t compare to what you'd get in Korea. For example, their soboro bread barely has any crumbs on top, when it should be fully covered. Don’t expect authentic Korean-style bakery items here. If you’re looking for something closer to the real thing, Paris Baguette in downtown Cincinnati has way better quality, especially when it comes to cakes with fresh whipped cream. Here, most cakes are buttercream-heavy, which is something that’s already mostly disappeared from modern Korean bakeries.

I’m beyond excited to learn that Tous Les Jours opened a location in Mason. My husband has to work in Korea for a year while my two kids were very young. We went and visited him twice. The last time I was there, we had to leave on my birthday, we got a small piece of cake from Tous Les Jours near the airport and shared it. This bakery will always have a special place in my heart. I got a variety of stuff. Of course I grabbed the Almond croissant first, because I try almond croissant everywhere I go. It was a little underwhelming, the filling is not almond-y enough, could pass for a vanilla filling croissant. The classic stuff like custard bread all have almond or peanuts in the ingredients, it’s not for someone who has tree allergy like my daughter. My taro cream bread is fluffy and delicious. Cakes are absolutely beautiful and yummy as I remembered them. I was looking for the cream buns but I didn’t see them. The store is open, bright and great for sitting down with friends and chat for a bit. I didn’t order coffee or tea this time. But congratulations on opening the store. In short, this place either doesn’t know what they’re serving, or they feel WAY too comfortable lying to the people who eat there.

I placed an online order for a croque monsieur and a mini cheesecake yesterday for lunch.

Grabbed my food, headed back to work, reached into the bag… and the sandwich was refrigerator-level cold. Took a few bites anyways and had to stop — it was crispy on the outside, gummy and odd on the inside.

I figured I should let the store know, and the screenshots show the exchange that followed. They told me that a croque monsieur is SUPPOSED to be cold… quite literally every source I checked says otherwise.

I didn’t bother replying to the statement that “all of our baked goods are freshly made in the morning” at the time, but that’s also not true — my cheesecake was in a heat sealed packet from Korea, at least 15 hours away.

To add insult to injury, they sent another email rejecting a refund (that I never asked for) later in the day.

I’m glad they’re considering my suggestion, but I’m left wondering whether they actually know what a croque...
