Roasty Toasty — Restaurant in DeForest

Found this little place when my usual coffee stop was closed for the day, but will definitely be coming back! Great selection of food (baked goods as well as stuff like sandwiches and quiche) and drinks (coffee, espresso, frappe, Italian ice, smoothies). It seems like a small business that cares a lot about what the work they do. Staff were friendly and helpful - they asked how I liked my espresso drink, I said it was good but my personal preference is for more "coffee" flavor, so they topped me off with some extra espresso for free! My breakfast panini was great too. They also sell a few random goodies like tea bottles, honey gift boxes, coffee beans, etc.

Small note, but their to-go containers for both food and coffee were really great. Both kept my stuff hot for like 15-20 minutes while I walked home (and the coffee cup managed to do this without feeling too hot to hold comfortably, which makes it better than like 90% of other to-go coffee cups I've had).

I rarely leave a bad review so I’ll try to be nice. I was really looking forward to checking this place out for a while but it was pretty disappointing. Strawberry banana smoothie was OK and the service was good.

My wife and I both ordered the ham panini and it was lame and not as advertised. Paid $8 each for half of a sandwich on white Wonderbread, not “roasted garlic panini bread” as indicated on the menu. The ham was basically Oscar Meyer deli meat. The panini was dry, like they forgot to butter the bread first. I think maybe because we both ordered the same thing the cook thought we ordered one sandwich and split it (?). The portion size was tiny. Like half of a not-very-good sandwich for $8. Insane. I wish I would have taken a picture. Had to make lunch again when we got home.

It’s a bummer. I hope it was just an off day and they can pull it together. If I come back I’ll just stick to coffee...

Love trying out new coffee shops. My drink was decent, dirty chai. However, the food was a disappointment. I had the breakfast sandwich and was bland and just mostly disappointed in quality. My daughter got a grilled cheese and it had a herded butter that disappointed and overpowered. The cheese also wasn't fully melted. In addition to this the food Said it came with kettle chips or greens, we didn't get any side. I didn't say anything because I really didn't want a side, but it did say it on the menu.

Decor is all a bright purple and has mismatched decor. Overall didn't feel cosy and that's usually what I'd be looking for in a shop.
