The Cottage Del Mar — Restaurant in Del Mar

Sorry to say, this was my first disappointing meal at this location. My wife and I went for late breakfast today and ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes and Joe’s Special egg dish. The pancakes were generally good but I think they’ve cut back on use of ricotta. But the Joe’s Special was anything but special. I specifically mentioned to our server that that dish can sometimes come out dry, and asked which she would choose between that and the pork belly Benedict, mentioning that we would be sharing both dishes. She recommended the JS and said they would cook it so it wasn’t dry. Result: dish came out lukewarm and, yes, dry. Plus it was sparse on the chicken sausage, mushroom and spinach. Really disappointing, especially at their price points, and I won’t be back...

Came today to celebrate a friend’s birthday, 2 in our group ordered bacon and eggs a la carte and they came on two small side dishes with the bacon falling off the sides. I will say that it was probably the most unappetizing looking bacon I’ve seen, some of the pieces not crispy and some with burn marks. Although the server was asked to replace the burnt piece, it was never brought to the table. I ordered the machaca birria scramble but didn’t want the corn tortillas to which the server felt like she had to explain to me that the tortillas were meant for making tacos....

We got on the waitlist, specifically asking for an outside table. The host told us that we’d have to wait around 20 minutes. After the time, we received the text that our table was ready. Once we got there, he offered us only an inside table and told us that we’d have to wait more for outside with no estimate.
