I just ordered for the first time from Anthony's @827 South Woodland Blvd here in Deland for delivery. I had been getting delivery from another local pizza spot and noticed the quality going down hill in the past year so I thought Id give Anthony's a try. 5 🌟 rating! I ordered the 12" meatball parmigiana hot sub, one slice of the pepperoni pizza and a small Caesar salad. Let me begin with pricing. With the size of the food portions, the pricing was actually pretty good and the delivery fee was minimal ($1.99) And with the current economic crisis, having good prices on good food being delivered is a major plus. 👍 The food arrived in a timely manner, the driver was courteous, was wearing a mask which I appreciated very much. The sub was very generous in size with the meatballs being more than big enough to fit the fresh bread/sub roll that it was in. It was still very "hot" which I look for in delivery, there was lots of good cheese and the sauce was very flavorful and tasted homemade. The meatballs itself were really tasty too with just enough added flavor of the bread binder to keep the meatball together. I got the 'one slice' of pepperoni pizza just to try because I have guest coming over this weekend and needed a good local pizza spot to order from. Well thanks to Anthony's, I need look no further! ☺ The slice itself was nicely large and there was pepperoni covering the whole thing! (Not just a couple that you would get at a local chain) The dough was very fresh, the pizza itself had a good flavored sauce, it wasnt too dry or too much. Lots of cheese and I was thoroughly happy! It was like a thin crust but not paper thin. The texture was just right and the bottom nicely browned. The caesar salad looks fresh, very nice portion size and the caesar dressing looks homemade, though I put that in the fridge to eat later along with the other half of my sub. I will definitely order from them again and they just made a new, happy customer outta me! ☺👍 Would...
Read moreI ordered a pepperoni and garlic pizza on the way back from the airport about an hour before closing with a pickup time of 30 minutes. I arrived to pickup the order right on time (google GPS is incredibly accurate in timing a trip) and was told it was going to be about 3 more minutes before it's ready. I asked if I should wait in the car but was again told that it was going to be only about 3 minutes so I chose to wait inside.
While I was waiting, the 2 waitresses, one senior female waitress manager and the manager (possibly owner) were working diligently to square out the tips for the evening. There was one table being served. I waited for my order while observing the unbelievable lack of organization related to the employee compensation being broadcasted in plain view.
I paid for my order at this time while waiting and the change was given back to me from the tip jar! The TIP JAR!!! What an insult to the waitress looking upon this! I couldn't have felt worse for her.
After about 10 minutes I was told that my order was "messed up" and being remade with a completion time of again 3 minutes. Another 10 minutes before I was finally on my way out the door with my order after standing around the counter for a bit over 20 minutes.
When I got home, I came to the realization my pizza was nothing all that special. It wasn't horrible but it was not much better than your average everyday pizza either. It was hot but a bit undercooked and the kitchen ticket was stuck to the pie in the box. Picture provided. My fiancée and I ate half of it anyway since we were tired and hungry after our long trip. It was OK at best.
The following day, I reheated the other half in the oven and I must say it was better the next day, quite good actually once it was cooked all the way. Again, picture provided.
To sum it up... The service was poor and the place seems totally unorganized. The food is about average but nothing special. I'm...
Read moreI’ve always wondered how this place managed to stick around Deland for so long, so we finally decided to try it out and placed an online order for pickup. I arrived to an empty restaurant with one table eating on a Friday night at 7pm, which not very reassuring. The cashier/waitress was very friendly, quickly cashed me out and sent me on my way with a smile.
That smile quickly faded when I got home and opened the side of marinara sauce served alongside the Steak Stromboli I ordered. What I was greeted with was nothing short of some crazy science project gone wrong. I can 100% understand some surface mold but I cannot even wrap my head around the state of decay that was housed within this plastic soufflé cup.
I called the restaurant to which the same server answered, hollered into the back that “the customer got mold in their sauce”. The server asked what I wanted to do about it and I genuinely just wanted to let them know to check their stock to make sure NOBODY ELSE WAS SERVED SATAN’S PETRI DISH. I expressed this, and then was offered to come back and get a new cup of sauce. I declined as I was not about to drive all the way back across Deland for sauce.
I did not eat my $16 Stromboli as my appetite was completely gone after the interaction with both the cup of sauce and the phone call.
As I said in the beginning of this review I have lived in Deland for many years and had managed to never eat at Anthony’s and I don’t believe I will again.
Tiramisu was really...
