An absolute disappointment... I want to start with the fact that I had been looking forward to this place opening up. However, the food was an abysmal insult even to moderate expectations. The House Special Lo Mein was lacking all the flavor that a House Special should have. Surprising that China King next door makes a House Special Lo Mein that far surpasses this one with lesser reviews. The sushi was something to be ashamed of. It is the only place in my lifetime that I order a Spicy Tuna roll and I get a roll of MINCED tuna which did not even taste like fresh tuna! They just mixed their minced tuna with a spicy orange-colored additive and stuffed the roll with that... Funny how their online order APP states that such item is in their "Most Popular" category... You want good sushi in Deland, go elsewhere like Odoum or even the Wednesday special at Publix where they at least would not dare mince a cut of tuna fish in a Spicy Tuna roll. As to how they have received 4 stars, beats me. I ordered their Miso soup which was good and their Chicken with Vegetables which was good but nothing in what I received speaks of a 4 star place, much less of a 4 star sushi place. I have not tried their Hibachi experience and most likely will not but encourage anyone who has to post their experiences regardless as to whether they were positive...
Read moreWe received a flyer in the mail and it featured all day bento boxes. At only $13.99 we figured we'd give it a try. Boy were we pleasantly surprised. Sitting in what looks to be a new-ish shopping center, the outside is pretty non-descript. But once you enter, you are greeted by a visual delight. A dark ceiling illuminated by a purple/blue neon like strip of light hugging the exterior walls. A divider of clear cylinders full of water animated by a torrent of bubbles, it's visually fun and calming all at the same time. We were greeted and seated immediately. They have an extensive menu from sushi to Thai dishes, but we were there for the bento boxes. Our server greeted us with a smile and took our order. We opted for 1) Mongolian beef with fried rice, salad and an egg roll. It also came with a California roll. 2) Sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, wonton soup, spring roll and a California roll. We opted for lemonade and club soda but they have wine and beer and other soft drink options. Portions were good. Food was hot and tasty. We will be back. Place seemed very popular as it was filling up and there were folks waiting...
Read moreI watched this place get built for several weeks and was eager to try it. There aren’t that many “mom and pop” Asian restaurants, especially around Deland lol that are very good in my opinion and I was ready to dig in. I tried the most typical dish I could think of General Tsos chicken….and it was not Tso good. The reason was that the chicken was hard to find amidst the breading and sauce. They were like little balls of breaded something with very little actual meat in them. I guess you could say it’s just your typical, run-of-the mill, sub par Chinese food experience. The rice was okay. Btw isn’t General Tso supposed to be slightly spicy? There wasn’t enough broccoli in the dish to justify eating the breading coated in sauce. I might give them another chance but only one more. if this is the quality of the chicken they use they won’t be around for long. Iit reminds me of that frozen stuff you get at Walmart.I have had good General Tsos where they put actual large ish pieces of meat in there….not little bits of fried...
