TL;DR Great pizza, nice staff, clean and classic feeling environment, lots of fun bevvies to quench your thirst
The real review....
Passed by on a wet night on our way back to New York, that being said... I've never said wow to a pizza I didn't get in Brooklyn, and I've tried em all across the US. This place definitely wowed me. The pizza was delicious, albeit slightly above average on the greasyness (thats the only reason i couldnt give food 5 stars)... especially for just cheese pizza, but the texture of the dough and the crust with the taste of the sauce, which was not overbearing or making the cheese swim at all, which was perfectly melted. With every bite a crisp that took me back to eating pizza in the 90s at a local pizza parlor that is sorely missed. It was almost the perfect pizza and we all enjoyed it. The beverage selection here is great as well, no shortage of choices from kids juice to adult juice😜. As for the staff, I watched the elder guy making pizza while we were ordering and I have to say, he looked so focused on his craft but with an ease of "I could do this with my eyes closed", it was kinda fun to watch cause he was just speedy and on point. The lady that took our order seemed nice, although there was some mystery of deep dark secret behind those eyes, 😂 now I'm just having fun, but back to seriousness, very nice, even though she looked like she was ready for her day to end hah, brought us out our pizza when it was ready and was kind enough to answer all our questions and provide us with what we requested without issue. In this old school looking place that felt like it was riding the ambience of the 80s/90s (which definitely adds to the feeling of nostalgia here of eating pizza after elementary school with friends), she was a pleasant energy to brighten up the place. Can't say much else, it was quite empty when we got there but then again it was also quite late, I think we got there close to closing... so to recieve nice service that late in the evening as well says a lot... anyone who's been in the food business knows we can't wait for those last...
Read moreAfter hiking, we worked up quite the appetite and saw Doughboy's near by and decided to stop in for some slices of pizza, figuring it'd be a quick meal. However, it was anything but.
We order 4 plain slices, took a seat and waited. After 40 minutes had passed, I had a feeling we had been forgotten, although I'm not sure how when it wasn't busy. Someone eventually came over and asked what we were waiting for, and I told them just 4 slices.
Five minutes later, 3 of our 4 slices were delivered, and we were told "we were waiting for all 4 to be ready, but here's 3 for now." It doesn't take 45 minutes for slices of pizza, and someone who came in much later than us got a whole pie before we got our slices.
Another 15 minutes goes by, and our last slice finally arrived. It didn't seem the waitstaff felt bad about the ordeal.
The pizza itself was good, but this place should not sell slices if it's going to take an hour to get your...
Read moreCame in on a Sunday night during NFL playoffs and I was worried it was going to be jamming with to go orders and the dining room might be busy. That was not the case. I was curious if that was lucky or a sign of things to come. Honestly maybe neither because I didn't find the pizza here to be quite good or quite bad. Honestly just a very middle of the road pie. It was upsetting because it looked good when it came out but it was just light in flavor and the crust was pretty doughy. Next time if I were to get pizza here again I'd definitely ask them to cook it a few more minutes. I had my kids and wanted to get them fed before taking them back to their mother's house so we stopped in since I had never been here. Maybe I'll go back and try some other items but the cheese pizza wasn't enough to make me want to...
