Deerhead Hot Dogs, Maryland Ave — Restaurant in Delaware

Went here a couple days ago for the first time. Ordered 2 hot dogs with sauce and onions, medium coke and old bay fries - was about $13. Took mine to go because I mistakenly thought the dining room was closed.

Drove back to the office about 5 minutes away and ate almost immediately, so the total time from getting my order to eating it was around 10 minutes.

The special sauce is nothing really special. It's pretty bland and doesn't really complement the taste of the hot dog, say the way that chili works with a Nathans hot dog. The dog itself was cut in half - the skin didn't have any snap to it and the taste was akin to a Bar-S type hot dog. I mean it's $2, so you're not expecting much.

The bun is steamed which really doesn't work at all with to go orders. In the 10 minutes that it took for me to open it the bun was basically mush.

The fries were pretty soggy and greasy; seemed like the oil temp was too low. Some people like that so maybe that's their schtick - I like my fries crispy and not oily. A meal like this would be better with baked home fries (and slightly more healthy).

So, in summary, really not much to see here. Fairly expensive for what it was, not as good as anything you can make at home yourself and nothing unique or interesting about any of the meal. The server was...

The prices are NOT what is posted under the menu on this page. They are almost double! Was a little shocked when I heard the total after calling in an order. When I went to pock up my order. I very calmly and politely tried to inform the staff that the prices on this page were incorrect. I never asked for the price to be adjusted or even tried to argue the total. I just wanted them to know. I was met with a rude response that its not their website and very quickly dismissed- sounds like they know this is an issue and don't care. Well, considering this is the 1st thing that comes up when you type in deerhead you might want to try and correct it.

The burger itself was mediocre at best. Similar to that of charcoal pit. The fries were meh... cheese fries just comes in a cup on the side. The large soda was very large- the best thing I can say for this place. This was my 1st and last time ordering here. The customer service needs an upgrade. stopped by here tonight and honestly didn’t realize they were closing just a few minutes after I walked in. It was my first time visiting I’m a flight attendant who’s in the area a few times a month, but this was my first time stopping in.

I had to leave a review because from the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a gentleman with such a kind and genuine attitude that made me feel instantly welcome! Even though it was close to closing time, he didn’t rush me or make me feel like a bother at all. He took the time to go over the entire menu with me and made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable.

Coming from a small town in Georgia, I’ll admit I’m not always treated as kindly as I should be — so great customer service like this really goes a long way! On top of that, another employee came over to chat with me, and we had such a nice conversation.

Thank you both for being so welcoming and by the way, the sub I ordered was absolutely delicious! I’ll definitely be back next time...
