Went on Monday May 9th, 2022. Went early at about 5:30pm to beat the crowd and enjoy some peace for our anniversary. Overall a very pleasant experience with a few minor caveats. We asked for seating away from the bar which was easily provided. A nice table with padded seating overlooking the fire pit placed outside. Place was clean and seating was comfortable. Waitress was knowledgeable on the menu which is always a plus. Waitress was excellent throughout. My wife and I had the crabcakes and fish tacos. Order was out in 20-25 minutes. Very good on the time. My wife enjoyed the crabcakes and didn’t use any sauces. She enjoyed them and they were seasoned well. Quality was spot on. The warm mustard potato salad was very good. Only issue with her dish was the amount of red onions in the potato salad. They obviously can can be over powering. My wife simply pushed most to the side. She still enjoyed the potato salad. Everyone has a different palate so some may like the amount of red onion. The star of the dish was the crab cakes. My order was the fish tacos, old bay fries and freshly made slaw. The old bay fries were typical thin fries seasoned well. Nothing special. But hey…it’s fries. The slaw was good. It was fresh which is a plus, but flavor? The dressing was okay but lacked something. I poured the slaw over the fries and salted it. The slaw with the crunch, and the fries with old bay, made for a great seasoned textured bite. Ejoyed it. The fish tacos were good and I did enjoy the flavors. However the anount of fish was lacking. One taco had what I would describe as about an index finger size piece of fish. The secong taco slightly bigger. And the third probably about the right size for the taco. Being consistent in plating is important. Quite frankly the fish from the first taco should have been on the second one with that piece of fish. Then another piece of fish placed on the first taco. Pictures online from their website show multiple “chunks” of fish on each taco. That didn’t happen. All the other ingredients, textures and flavors on the taco were excellent. Just lacked the fish they needed. One other issue was the plated lime that came with the tacos. I could see easily they were very dry. I was able to squeeze out a few drops. But it’s not a good look on the plate and can be a red flag into making you think what else isn’t so fresh. I informed the waitress and she said she would let them know to replace the limes that were pre-cut. Being consistent in plating and looking at what you put out on a dish is important. If I can see the lime is dry when I get my plate, then it should have been spotted before going out. It’s paying attention to detail. Did we enjoy our meals? Absolutely. Was it worth the price? Overall yes. Would we go back? Yes. Could there be a lack of consistency in the plating/portion/quality of the food? Maybe. That has yet to be determined. That will determine if this is a place I frequent, or a place I visit twice and move on. They did give me a ten percent VA discount which was nice. I give it a 4.5 out of 5. Consistency will be key. Would I...
Read moreI have gone to Fish On since it opened & it is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the area. We ordered raw oysters on the half shell which were fresh and delicious, the cocktails were well made and flavorful, and our waiter was polite and working hard. All was well until we got our entrées. I ordered the scallops (from the fish board). My husband could smell the "fishy smell" from when they arrived at the table. I LOVE scallops and had a hard time after 2 bites from 2 different scallops. They were a bit over cooked on one side but overall VERY slimy and very gamey tasting. They tasted spoiled. I could not handle another bite and left the majority on the plate. At the end of our meal our waiter asked how everything was and I kindly told him that the scallops were not good. He apologized and said he would tell the chef. I thanked him as it was not his fault. I was definitly surprised that there was no followup from the manager or the chef. The restaurant was about half full and service was slowing down....granted it was memorial day Sunday but it was after 830pm and it was slower. In past visits, there was always a manager check-in at the table but this time there was no check-in or followup. For a $32 entrée (that we were fully charged for) I would expect a follow-up...
Read moreWell, we tried this place for a second time tonight, 1st time was when we moved here 3 years ago. Then the food was MEH barely a 2/5.....and tonight it was just the same if not worse. It is owned by Sodel, yuk.....all their restaurants in the area are the same sub par level of mediocre food, low quality ingredients, boring choices and flavorless lumps of meat/fish and limp uninviting tasteless salads . We hail from Manhattan, still maintain a residence there and so have an abundance of amazing restaurants to choose from. So yes we are spoiled for options and crave excellent food, so you can imagine for us how the food down here just doesn't come up to standard. I had the halibut with the farm salad for dinner tonight. It was bland, tasteless, dry, unflavored and unappetizing, frozen supermarket fish could have been served better than this. My Husband had the crab cakes which he said were low quality crab, frozen broccoli with microwaved potatoes yuk. I ate 2 bites of my fish and one fork full of salad and I couldn't do it absolutely gross. On a positive note our server was lovely, the wine was wonderful, place was cute and atmosphere intimate. Pity the food sucked or it would be a great restaurant. A 1/5 for us,...
