My family stayed for three nights in August of 2022. Our plan was to bring most of our own food and use the amenities in the room to prepare meals and keep costs down. I'm sharing some of our experience for other families who may be looking to do the same thing.
Pro's:
Hotel is extremely well located. It's close to a great beach (Lewes public beach), the Ferry, shopping and other amenities. Rehoboth is just a short drive away. You will be driving most places. There is little infrastructure for safe walking around the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our plans had us out all day, and my son was disappointed at missing out on the free pretzel bar the hotel was offering. A staff member saw his disappointment and saved a pretzel for him. He was so excited. I wish I had gotten her name to let the manager know how she went above and beyond. We had a two queen bed suite with a kitchen. The room was spacious and quiet despite being on the first floor. We all slept wonderfully with no noise issues. The free breakfast was well-run. I was recovering from surgery and trying to limit my risk of Covid. They had plenty of sealed options - cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and bananas.that I could enjoy without worry of too much exposure. Parking is free, spacious, and plentiful. Always appreciated at the beach. There is a washer and dryer on the fourth floor, costing $3.00 a load each (paid credit card or app). The machines ran well and were a nice size. $6.00 to do a load of laundry may sound expensive, but it's actually a fair price for hotel laundry and the size of the machines allowed me to do more items than I expected. The outdoor patio area with the fire pit was lovely. We sat outside with drinks playing cards every night to wind down. Easily one of the highlights of our stay. The pool is the perfect size. It can accommodate a lot of people without feeling crowded.
Con's:
The hotel is a dog-friendly hotel, which usually is no problem. We stay at them quite often and rarely have any issues. Perhaps it's staffing shortages, but the hotel did not seem overly clean. There were spots in the lobby and hallway carpets where dogs clearly had accidents that were not cleaned up properly, and our room smelled strongly of dog. Our noses were running and we were coughing in our room the entire stay, which we've never experienced at a Hyatt before. I don't think the carpets are cleaned deeply enough in-between guests. If you have any type of dog allergy you may want to avoid this hotel. I had called ahead to find out what kitchen amenities were provided so we could bring our own food. They mentioned an oven, microwave, stove top, dishwasher and that all cooking implements and dishware were provided. This is not quite accurate. The "oven" is a convection/microwave combo that is extremely difficult to use. We had to google how to use it. Whirlpool specifies that you must use special convection-safe materials when cooking, however none of those were provided in the room. When I asked the staff gave me a cookie sheet which turned out to NOT be suitable for the machine. We ended up throwing half of our food away since we were unable to cook it. Eating out more than we had planned hit our budget a little hard, but the good news is that there are plenty of affordable options around. There is no restaurant at the hotel. The pool is FREEZING. I can't imagine what it must be like outside of August temps to swim in. The hotel windows are NOT tinted for privacy. Not being able to have any natural light drove me crazy. We were on the first floor and could not open any window shades because people in the parking lot could stare right into our room. Being at the beach and not being able to enjoy the natural light was a huge downside for me.
Overall, hotel is a good value and nicely located. We had a great time. Would definitely recommend for families looking for space,...
Read moreWe have never been so disgusted at any hotel, this place was filthy. We booked four nights for a family reunion and left within 12 hours of arriving, after driving nearly nine hours. We were notified that our room was ready but then the front desk said it was not ready and was waiting inspection by housekeeping supervisor. When we finally made it to room we found air purifier sitting at the door, the toilet seat was left upright and had hair and urine stuck to it. The sink had thick black mold around top edge. Photos are posted. Housekeeping supervisor came to room and took photos, she obviously had not inspected the room. We were told no other room of this type had yet been cleaned and we could not be moved. Returned to lobby, attempted to use rest room there and found a broken toilet clogged with waste and toilet paper, second toilet covered with urine. Asked if other restroom available, front desk employee said he would check staff bathroom. He returned and immediately put on gloves and grabbed a toilet scrub brush and cleaner, stating that it needed to be cleaned. Apparently bathroom cleanliness is not a priority here. We left the property for several hours and when we returned to our room we realized why the air purifier was there, the room had a strong odor of dog urine. So, the delay at check-in was due to them trying to clear the odor and not because of an inspection. We asked to be moved to any clean room. We were moved to a smaller room where the air conditioning was blasting, the temp was 67 degrees, yet the sheets and bedding were damp and the room smelled like a wet dog. We decided that all of this, combined with having observed overflowing trash barrels at the front doors and trash left on tables in the common areas and in the pool area equaled a dirty environment. We observed many guests entering with large dogs and multiple dogs. It is beyond pet friendly, it is overrun with dogs. I napped a couple hours in my clothes and we left at 5am and drove ten hours to return home. I have traveled extensively throughout my career and for leisure, both within the US and internationally. I have never been at a hotel as dirty and unkempt as this. I do not understand the rating on trip advisor, this place is below a zero. It might work for dog owners who are unwilling to board their dogs, but if you care about cleanliness, stay elsewhere. It is worth noting that the hotel has stated they will refund the hotel expense, which I would expect since we did not stay, but we also are out the cost of theater tickets we never got to use, gas, tolls, food, and ironically…the expense of boarding our two dogs. We were unable to have our family reunion, what a total fail this whole experience was. So...
Read moreLabor Day weekend 2023 We stayed here labor day weekend and it was a fantastic experience. I was given a small gift (snacks/water) for being a Hyatt Globalist during check-in - much appreciated. The front desk staff was great - very friendly and helpful. Gentleman behind the bar was delightful and my 22m old adored him.
Despite it being a very busy weekend the lobby and all of the shared areas were immaculate. They have a heated indoor pool that is quite large for a hotel of this size. The weather was beautiful during our visit and we enjoyed spending evenings around the fire pit on the patio.
We were in room 421. It's a very spacious king room with a sofabed, kitchenette and a large island. The room was very quiet - I didn't hear any other guests or outdoor noise. The bed was extremely comfortable and I really loved their soft down pillows. The AC worked GREAT - we set the thermostat to 70° and it stayed at 70°. Plenty of hot water but the shower pressure wasn't great. I've previously had good water pressure at this hotel so maybe it's just this room. They supply shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/hand soap etc but I can't comment on them as I brought my own. The TV has chromecast so I was able to catch up some of the shows on my home DVR that I never have time to watch.
Breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was constantly being restocked and cleaned.
Great location. Very near Savannah and Johnnie Walker Beaches and about 15m to Cape Henlopen state park beach. Tons of restaurants and stores nearby. There is a Walgreens across the parking lot if you forgot any toiletries and a Weis market is across the street.
The young man behind the desk gave us a reccomendation for Mr P's pizza which we really enjoyed.
Review from 2022: Everything is new and beautifully decorated. Front desk staff and management were friendly and professional. We had a little hiccup with the batteries going out in the thermostat but the hotel staff took care of us. room was spacious with a small kitchenette and sofa. Shower had great water pressure. HUGE indoor pool and a nice outdoor patio with fire pit and barbecue. They offer a nice free breakfast which goes beyond the typical continental breakfast which included things like eggs, sausage. potatoes and fruit. The door is VERY LOUD which makes room sharing for families with little ones tricky. This hotel is a little far from the beach. I typically stay at Hotel Rehoboth when I come to this area and I do prefer their location on the main strip of Rehoboth Beach however the amenities here are great and I would...
