I brought my best college friend to my favorite restaurant and it was a disaster! When the waitress brings out the food, the fried fish dinner looked like frozen fish sticks. When Alice expressed her opinion that the fish looked nothing like the fish on the menu, the waitress began to go back and forth trying to convince her that the frozen fish stick looked like the scrumptious picture on the menu. Alice was willing to order something else but the waitress said that she needed to get the manager. The manager came out and informed her that food was expensive and that she had to pay $16.00 whether she ate the food offer not! Alice attempted to show him the difference between the picture and food that was shifting in front of her. He began to berate her demanding that she pay for her untouched meal. I asked him for the owner several times and he continued to ignore my repeatedly requests. He then continued on his tirade as to how expensive food was and that she would have to pay for the meal despite not touching any parts of it. He continued to interrupt while chatising us. Again, I requested to speak to the owner. He walked away. I again asked him for the owner. He then lied and said that he was the owner. I knew it was a lie because I had been coming to Route 130 Diner for however long it was built at this location and I never once encountered him. He then left and when the doors to the kitchen opened, you could see him yelling at his employees. The workers are miserable. Several snuck by and apologized for his behavior. I started that I was going to put it up on social media to show what an inept "owner" he was. HIS STAFF ENCOURAGED ME TO BRING LIGHT TO THEIR HORRENDOUS WORK CONDITIONS! I LEARNED THAT HE IS NOT THE OWNER BUT A TYRANNICAL A**LE OF A MANAGER WHO SHOULD NOT BE MANAGING OTHERS BECAUSE HE LACKS SELF-CONTROL! These dedicated workers deserve better than this. The workers are miserable and from what I understand many regulars are leaving by the dozens. PLEASE HELP SAVE THIS ESTABLISHMENT FROM THIS BULLY! I really would like for the true owner to investigate the treatment of the employees! HIMMET SHOULD NOT BE PRETENDING TO BE THE OWNER! HE LACKS BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! IF HE KEEPS IT UP, THIS PLACE WILL BE...
Read moreOur first time eating here. We did enjoy our meal and plan to go again but there were some things to note.
The food was pretty good. Tasty and you could see care went into the preparation. I really appreciated the soup, which was well made, even though the broth was watered down. The Greek salad that came with my entree was awesome!
One complaint is that most of the food was not at the right temperatures. The soup was tepid. The veggies with my main entree were cold. Not "out of the fridge cold" but cooler than room temperature (couldn't melt soft butter at all). And, the chicken salad on our sandwich was actually warmer than room temperature. Definitely stored outside of the refrigerator. Fortunately, it was fresh and wasn't going bad but it absolutely wasn't at a food safe temperature.
They have a beautiful dessert case. We split a slice of limoncello cake. It was a delicious cake. Just the right amount of sweetness. The texture of the cake itself was great, light and airy; nice crumb. The frosting was awesome (and we're fussy about frosting!). Only problem was: it had virtually no lemon taste at all! If you were looking for a nice slice of "lemon perfumed" dessert cake, it would be fabulous. But to sell it as a limoncello cake is a misnomer.
Lastly, the restaurant is very wheelchair accessible. Pleantly of tables with chairs that can be moved. Nice wide aisles. And the bathroom handled my large power chair. There were a couple things in the bathroom that needed improving:
The strike on the HC stall needs to be reversed so the door could swing open out, rather than in. (Easy fix)
It has one grab bar along the side of the stall. It really needs one more across the back of the stall. (Also an easy fix.)
I spoke with the manager who was very receptive to the feedback and said she would mention it to the owners. As a handicapped person who wants to try the diner again, this made me feel very welcomed. ❤️ If you're handicapped, you know how important that is!
And, yes, all-in-all we appreciated our meal and plan to give the diner a second go to see if the issues were from an off night or a typical evening. Hoping...
