When we arrived, party of 3, we were told there was a 30-40 minute wait regardless if we ate in or did take out. First time at the restaurant, we opted to eat in. After being seated and given menus, we were almost immediately asked what we wanted to order and it was with a slight attitude and impatience. Had to explain it was our first time, which then changed the demeanor of the hostess/waitress, who then answered a couple of questions and took our drink orders. Somewhat lengthy wait to get drinks, had a second waitress come to us asking if we ordered drinks yet, to which we said "yes but we haven't received them yet" as the initial waitress was taking a while serving another table. Moments later, another female worker, which seemed to be manager, came to us asking if we were ready or not and when indicating the other waitress was attending, said it didn't matter and questioned whether or not one in my party remembered what drink they ordered, in a rude way. Getting beyond that, we finally placed orders but was told there were NO beef ribs due to not being available at the store, as if it's something known to everyone; had to reiterate to this worker/manager, it was the first time at the restaurant, so to go to next person in our party to give me time to choose a second option, which was done immediately after that person stated what they wanted. One complimentary sweet cornbread muffin was given per person as we waited for our meals. The muffins were fresh, soft, and sweet. Instead of a 30-40 minute wait, it was well over an hour. The same worker/manager came to our table once to say our food was being plated and would be out momentarily, only for it to be another 15 minutes or so. Once it came, one person in my party asked for a to-go container, which was then met with the response, "if you wanted it to go, you should've told me that before." Well, our food didn't come out momentarily but we didn't say anything in response to her remark. Containers were brought for everyone although we did eat some of our meals while there since we were hungry but had other obligations. The main entrees come with your choice of two sides. The sides were hot, the salmon, and fried chicken; however, the smothered turkey wings were lukewarm though the person in my party said they had a decent flavor. The other got the grilled salmon and said they were not impressed with the flavor. I got the fried chicken which was seasoned well and crispy. The mac and cheese was underwhelming, very peppery. The collard greens were ok, a weird sweet and tart, vinegar flavor. The other two in my party got the yams and said they were basic, not really flavorful; one said they could taste some cinnamon, the other didn't. One got cabbage and said it was a little salty. Each main entree meat comes on a bed of rice which was like herb flavored and slightly overcooked. Overall, the food had a decent enough flavor, depending on the choice; yet, the service and wait were unprofessional and concerning, leading to pause about returning anytime soon. Maybe ordering for take out an hour prior would be beneficial but the dine in experience with the wait was not what you would like to see though it could very well had been worse. The place was not crowded, but had a stream of people coming in primarily for take out and a few tables with other parties. Improvement with customer service needed: reduce assumptions and rushing customers, especially with ridiculous wait times for food. Take-out would probably be better suited for this establishment until the dine-in service is efficient, effective,...
Read moreMy friend and I were excited to try the new soul food restaurant in Delran. The atmosphere was charming, though it felt slightly unfinished as it seemed they were still decorating. Our server was warm, friendly, and offered great recommendations, which we appreciated. The restaurant is BYOB, and the cornbread was soft, fresh, and delicious—a promising start. We placed our order within the first 15 minutes, opting for three appetizers and one main dish: grilled salmon with two sides. However, we ended up waiting 40 minutes without any updates on our food. About 10 minutes later, what appeared to be the owner or manager came over to let us know the delay was due to all dishes being made fresh to order. While we appreciated the explanation, the additional 25-minute wait made the total time for our food to arrive roughly an hour and 15 minutes. During this time, we noticed other guests becoming visibly frustrated with the long waits, with some appearing upset about not receiving their orders at all. When our food finally arrived, it was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Unfortunately, by the time it came, we were so hungry and drained from the wait that we just wanted to eat, pay, and leave. If we decide to return, we’ll consider placing our order well in advance in hopes of avoiding the long wait. While the food is fantastic, the timing issues detracted from what could have been a great...
Read moreWe had an event catered at my facility this past Friday for Black History month. Monica was so wonderful going through the menu choices with me and recommending portions. Phil, one of our residents, started the process and I just followed up... The food was absolutely spectacular and our residents and staff enjoyed it very much! We got fried Basa (amazing - I would have chosen Whiting instead but boy would I have been wrong!) , fried chicken wings, Short Ribs (they did them special for me and Phil and were delicious). Corn bread, black eye peas, rice, Mac and Cheese, Peach Cobbler and sweet potato pie. Monica even snuck in some collard greens for me to try - and I have to say in all honesty they were the BEST I have ever had - would love the recipe. This is a family establishment and I am so happy we found them. Thank you Monica and your husband the chef (I am afraid I would misspell his name) for making this past Friday a fantastic feast. We will definitely be back! Most...
