We haven’t been to New Haven Pizza since they moved into the new building, and my husband and I were happy to see their business growing — we’ve always liked their pizza and wanted to support a local spot. When we arrived to meet a friend for dinner, we immediately noticed how hot it was inside. Turns out, the air conditioning was broken. We decided to tough it out and stay anyway.
We ordered two pizzas and a calamari salad. My husband had the pizza topped with broccoli rabe — he said it was just okay, lacking flavor and cheese. I tried a slice and thought it was decent, not too bitter. My calamari salad, on the other hand, was disappointing: bland, boring, and light on ingredients — just a few pieces of calamari, some lettuce, and dressing. Definitely not worth $16.
Even though the food was just okay and the restaurant was uncomfortably warm, we still enjoyed catching up with our friend. However, the experience took a turn when I noticed after paying that I was overcharged for my salad — $18 instead of $16. When I called the restaurant to point it out, the woman on the phone was curt and unhelpful, offering no apology and simply saying their POS system was wrong and she’d issue a $2 credit. It’s been over a week, and I STILL haven’t seen that credit ☹️
To top it off, our waiter had an attitude the entire time — especially when we asked for ice water because of how hot it was. Overall, very disappointed with the service, food, and customer care this time around. I really hope they improve because we used to love coming here. We’ve been coming here around 6-7 times over the years. Spending over $50 for 2 people for mediocre food and substandard service...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I’ve been here 7-8 times over the past year.
I’ll say this place is wildly inconsistent in terms of quality and consistency seems to be worse lately in their new location.
I’ve had had the gamut of perfectly cooked pizza with sauce flavor just right (no mootz!) pie’s that will have you dying to come back.
On the other hand I’ve had pizzas that were wildly undercooked, chewy and the sauce was lacking flavor. Pizzas that were so overcooked the entire bottom was charred black and tasted awful. I’ve had pizzas that were not cut properly (pictured) and everything in between.
The last time I ordered a pie to go, I watched them cut the pie, they cut out a section straight down the middle about 1.5-2 inches! Directly from the center of the pie. Then they put together the two halves, sliced it and boxed it up for me..all while I was watching. The guy who cut it then started to eat what he had cut out! I’d like to mention that there was room in the box so it was irritating and perplexing to watch.
Overall they can make EXCELLENT pizza here, the problem is they need someone to run the ship so that every pizza comes out good. From my experience the odds of getting a ‘good’ pizza here are about 1 in 3, in other words 66% of the time it’s NOT good. When you do get the good pie it’s GREAT but the majority of the time it’s just ‘meh’ and for meh pizza it’s very overpriced.
I want to love this place because I’ve seen what they are capable of when they are on their a-game, unfortunately most of the time it’s the C...
Read moreJoanne personally came up and gave us a back story and history behind AhBeetz and New Haven, she was actually leaving the next day to set a world record back at her home town. Kind lady. We found out about Ah Beetz through Dave Portnoy who gave it a wonderful score. I have never had New Haven style and I just can't taste pizza any other way anymore. From the chewy, toasty crust to the tangy sauce and melt in your mouth cheese. There is plenty of seating and its restaurant style service. Also there are frames of pictures lining the restaurant that tell some history. It's a great place for large gatherings, I'll be back again, and again, and again, and...
