Me and my wife went on St. Paddy's Day. Found an empty stool at bar next to waitress station. Ordered food and a Guiness (for the wife, - I was driving). A man named O'Connor came up and cashed out his tab next to us and needed to put more on because of a $25 minimum. He told barmaid (unfortunately I didn't get her name) to give us each a beer. I said make mine an Arnold Palmer because of me driving. Our food came and it was terrible. My corned beef was dry and there was only one small potato and hardly any cabbage on the plate. I should have sent it back. The fries on my wife's fish and chips were cold and under cooked. In the mean time I asked what's her name for our two drinks some one else graciously paid for and she said no because he was able to cash out with only one extra beer( which apparently she gave to someone else by mistake). I didn't even get the AP. I understand the place is swamped and crazy but you would think with the tip potential that day you would have a better attitude than she did. I've never worked in hospitality, and I know you can't go giving everyone free drinks, but come on it's SPD ! Instead of asking us what she could do to appease us, she kept arguing with this I don't care or give a damn about us or our request. Take a wild guess what her tip was. ZERO with a nice little two word (not profane or vulgar) note about exactly what I thought of her and her attitude. $63 dollars for two specials and two beers ! Are you kidding me ? Don't go here the food is lousy and over-priced and so are the drinks. Not to mention the attitude of SOME of the staff. Must be because of their overhead being right on Federal. I will say after we went outside and listened to the bag pies and enjoyed the crowd, that was the only saving grace of an otherwise unsatisfying experience. Next year I will eat before I go and sneak in my own beer (and Iced Tea). Or look for another place to go to on...
Read moreOur Meet-Up group booked a 25-person reservation at Tim Finnegans over a month ago. We were looking forward to celebrating a member's birthday and spent weeks coordinating the party and making sure friends and family could attend - some traveling from out of town.
This afternoon just six hours before the party, the restaurant let us know they made a mistake - there is special event there tonight, and they shouldn't have let us book the table. Then they abruptly canceled our reservation without trying to rectify the situation in any way or offer us anything to make up for the inconvenience and last-minute notice. Even after we explained that the reservation was for a birthday party that people were traveling miles to attend, they refused to make any attempt to make things right.
We had to cancel the party since it is the height of the season, and all area restaurants we tried were booked. We weren't able to reach several members of the group, so they will be showing up tonight with gifts and balloons for the birthday girl who won't be celebrating her special day. They will be turned away at the door. And I have a HUGE ice cream cake in my fridge that will go to waste because I'm on a diet and my husband is diabetic.
I would advise any large groups to think twice before booking reservations at this restaurant. Its owners do not value their customers (most members of our group are regulars!). Their customer service and business practices are absolutely...
Read moreJune 2023: Tim Finnegans seems to be going down hill, and fast. Not sure if it's new mgmt or what, but it's definitely NOT the place it once was. Food & svce are now far below par, week nights are dead, and weekends not much better.
Saw a very popular singer playing there last Tuesday nite to a "crowd" of only 7 people (which included us), and we were shocked because that singer's shows literally pack the place everywhere else we see him. We asked him what was going on & he politely intimated that he probably wouldn't be returning until Finnegans "recovers". (Apparently Finnegans doesn't pay bands remotely enough for bands to want to play there anymore.)
Meanwhile, our drinks were mediocre & priced too high. Maybe if all we wanted were some beers, we might not have cared that the place was totally dead, or that a crooner was performing to no one. But lo & behold, the following Wednesday nite was dead too, and with no live entertainment, so we left after 5 minutes. Hugely disappointed.
Feels like the owner is throwing in the towel.
We will choose a different pub to call our own for the future. Even if we have to actually drive or Uber. We don't write many reviews but we're in the travel business and our clients need to be able to rely on our recommendations.
We hope Finnegans wakes up from their coma before their current lack of busines forces their doors closed.
Sorry, nothing personal, but we can no longer recommend this establishment...
