We visited Choupli Wood-Fired Kabob on a blazing 95-degree day, hoping for a quick, flavorful dinner in a cooler atmosphere

Unfortunately, this restaurant’s weak air conditioning couldn’t keep the heat out, and the interior was uncomfortably warm. Tables and chairs also felt sticky and weren’t well cleaned.

Our orders: • Chicken Shawarma Wrap ($8.99) My daughter’s wrap was a letdown—filled with small, burnt bits of chicken, wrapped in an overcooked, dry pita. The tomatoes and onions were cut far too thick, making it awkward and hard to chew. • Lamb Kofta Wrap ($9.39) My wife loves lamb and appreciated the tenderness of the meat, but the veggies completely overpowered it. The balance just wasn’t there, and she walked away disappointed. • Side Chicken Kabob ($5.99) My kabob was dry but nicely seasoned. Thankfully, they did provide their special sauce when I asked, which helped improve the flavor a bit.

Between the temperature inside, cleanliness issues, and inconsistent food quality, this visit didn’t live up to expectations. The food shows some promise, but the execution and atmosphere need work. Wouldn’t return unless...

They close early, at 7pm.

The owner came out and asked us how the food was halfway through our dinner, and offered to give us falafel to try. Very generous, and smart! Cuz those falafels were small but mighty! Told all our friends about this place at the convention and hope it brought them more business.

Food was great, but some better than others.

Definitely the Bulgur Wheat over the Rice. I've had better rice elsewhere, but bulgur wheat was truly excellent.

Baba Ganoush - very good

garlic sauce wins over tahini!

Tabouli was not the best, as the parsley used was maybe older and tough.

house salad - nothing exceptional, but good

souls patrician - didn't know what this was, but it's grilled veggies served cold. Definitely a must get.

chicken shawarma- felt more dry than moist

lamb kofta - actually wanted the lamb kabob, but they had run out. kofta was good. They give you 2 pieces, and I wish they gave me more!

Server was very nice and helpful in helping us decide the sides, and not at all condescending or...

Choupli is a really special restaurant. My wife and I hated living in Lansing and were unimpressed with pretty much all the restaurants in town. Lots of paying for atmosphere and lots of restaurants that just dont seem to care about their food. Lots of slop houses and bars basically. Choupli stands out with their high quality food. So so so tasty, very filling, the price is decent and the longer we were customers the better they treated us. The workers at the restaurant are always friendly, followed orders without flaw and over time they even learned who my family was and started giving us extra little care.

Lansing was a town we could not wait to move from in part because the food. Choupli (and Korea House) was a stand out and it remains the only place we will come back to when we are...

The value is there, for sure...it's essentially all-you-can-eat Middle Eastern food for $9. But that's not why you should be eating here. This place is about flavor combinations and nuance. It's actually fun to combine ingredients, combine dishes, sample, experience, learn, and then do something totally different next time! The menu makes sense, and it's easy to navigate because they'll let you sample unfamiliar items to help you decide. This is how people want to eat today: pick your protein, pick your toppings or sides, pick your sauce. Custom, can't-lose meal building. Employees were friendly and patient, and informative. Food was fresh and clean. Do not miss this strip mall gem! I live 4 hours from it and I found it. You should too!
