Last year I gave this place a five star rating today I drop it to one star. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone has a bad day, but I was just informed that it is tropical smoothie’s policy to not fix mistakes unless caught right away. Here’s a short version of my story I go to Tropical Smoothie Cafe S. Saginaw Road usually once a week in the last month they have forgotten my kids candy straws three times, the first two times I did not even catch it till I got home because I ordered ahead walked in grab the bag and didn’t even think to check it. That is my mistake today on my son’s birthday I went in and check the bag. I am immediately noticed. I was missing the candy straws again I turn to one of the employees and said hey I’m missing part of my order. I missing my Candy Straws. I had two of them. The employee acted as if I was bothering them and then said which straws I informed them which one I said also, this is the third time this month this has happened. Is there anything I can do? Can I get the other straws back. the employee said something like no, and then looked at the manager. I then told my case to the manager. Who informed me tropical smoothie does not fix mistakes that were made in the past. Have a nice day sir I responded. I will not have a nice day not with that type of customer service. She responded. This is corporate policy. We don’t fix past mistakes I told her I would be making a review with corporate, and on Google after I made my corporate review, I called the store back to talk with the manager, who had first talk with me very kindly and calmly. Then she told me that I was at fault. This was corporate policy. Nothing could be done. My response was I don’t care about the straws I care about the response if she spoke to me kindly like she had just done on the phone I would’ve had a different response as I would’ve disagreed with tropical smoothie, but understood as she was only following policy however, I felt it was dismissive and not the best customer service to respond the way she and the others had. I was told you, sir were the one who had the attitude and you threw a fit at me and my coworkers I told her I did not throw a fit. I was not happy that I wasn’t gonna be given what I had ordered, but I did not throw a fit. I did not yell I did not raise my voice or anything she told me she would not argue with me anymore which I said I’m not arguing I am just letting you know cause I’m going to post this review and I want you to fix this so the customer service can be what it normally is and then if she would’ve responded to me in the restaurant like she had in the first part of the phone call that would’ve been no problem all I was looking for, was either a solution or sympathy that this would not happen again. Read morePlease do not stop by the restaurant for lunch if your normal lunch hours are from noon to 1pm. You will waste your entire lunch time sitting around not knowing what the delay in service is, as well as your food can finally be given to you as you rush to get back and find out that it is not properly made for how long it took just to get it.
Granted, I stopped in during the lunch rush and being from out of town I didnt know about their rush hours, but the service time was still incredibly slow and I could tell the employees were not communicating properly with each other.
The person taking the orders is not the one making the food or taking payments. I had at least two people other than the one who took my order, neither of which knew what my order was or that I had paid once I finally made it to the window. I was hoping for a quick in and out for lunch and sat in the line waiting to order for at least 15+ mins. Once I finally ordered my simple smoothie, I waited another 10+ mins just to get to the first payment window.
The workers didnt initially know which order was mine (hence the lack of communication about which order was up next) and once I paid with the first worker, that person walked away. Another person came up and put my smoothie in the window and walked away and the third person came and asked me again what my order was, not realizing I had paid (more lack of communication).
I calmly explained to her what I ordered and that I had paid and once she finally understood, she gave me my smoothie so I could leave. Unfortunately, as soon as I tasted my smoothie, I could tell that the quality and quantity of ingredients was wrong. I had ordered a kiwi quencher with peanut butter added. I could barely taste the peanut better or the strawberry and the entire thing was watered down. I did not drink the smoothie and did not have time to get lunch elsewhere due to work lunch time restrictions.
I have never had this bad of service from this company and I sincerely hope it was simply an off day as I do expect to keep coming back to my normal location in the future. The workers were thankfully not disrespectful, but it still not acceptable to not properly communicate with your coworkers or with the line of customers waiting and not knowing what is going on to cause...

I ordered delivery from this location today 1/18/25 and it was one of the most unhappy and unpleasant 😞 experience I’ve ever had from a tropical smoothie Cafe. My order arrived via door dash at 6:28pm (promise time 6:05pm) when I ordered at 5:55pm ok so NO THATS NOT THE PROBLEM. THEY CANT CONTROL DASHERS I GET THAT. But when I called to inform them of the issues I had with my drink being the wrong one, hair all over my cup, and the food was cold asf, and being delivered after the promise time the gentleman told me to call door dash and take it up with them to get a refund. I’m at work and didn’t want a refund I just wanted fresh food, the right drink and a clean cup. I have already paid for the order and offered to send my husband back up there to just have him remake the order and he could have the other order back as I TOUCHED NOTHING IN THE BAG but the cookie since it was unopened but that’s how cold it was you could feel it from outside of the bag. He assured me he would rectify the issue if I sent my order back and I could get fresh food. My husband came all the way to my job (wasted gas) got my food and took it back up there(wasted gas), just to call me and the man say he never said any of this stuff to me and I would have to REPAY FOR MY ORDER… Can you see why I’m upset? Or am I being the A.H. In this situation? I’m starving and to have to repay for an order that wasn’t delivered by a promise time, was cold and the store clerk even said he seen the driver and she looked unprofessional and just threw together. And to have my husband driving in circles wasting gas money smh…. I work Front Desk of 4 local hotels and I will NOT EVEN THINK TO REFER THIS PLACE AS A PLACE OF INTEREST when someone ask’s about a place...
