Cactus Cafe — Restaurant in Deming

I was so excited to try out the food here. From the fantastic reviews on Facebook and all the beautiful photos of great plates of food I've seen from there. I wish our experience was even anywhere close to being good.

Our party of 5 was seated very promptly and the server was polite, but from there it was all downhill. Took 20 minutes to even receive our drink order and some chips, but my grandmother received ice water instead of the hot water she asked for. Server never come back to fix the problem and I had to flag her down to remind her we needed refills, the right drink order, and straws.

After an hour, yes I checked the clock several times, it really took an hour to get our food from the time we ordered it, it was a disaster.

I had ordered the "Bean Burrito Plate" which on the menu was described as two bean burritos smothered and with beans and rice. I received a sad soggy bean burrito all alone on a plate with nothing else.

The enchilada plate we ordered did not get the egg we asked for on it or the onions.

We never got the appetizer we ordered. And the menu raved about their wonderful green chile but it was bland too and had no spice to it whatsoever. Very disappointing for a new Mexican to be served bland mild green chilies.

The hamburger was absolutely bland with no flavor and the fries were this dark almost burned color that tasted off, like they were cooked in old oil.

The brisket tacos , something I was very excited to have my aunt try, were in a pool of grease on her plate with soggy splitting tortillas that didn't even have the sour cream she asked for. The rice had uncooked crunchy grains and was hard to eat.

I called the manager over to explain the issues, and how after waiting an hour we would at least expect our food to be right. She said we would get a discount and the waitress would fix our orders. Which she did by giving us side plates of all the items she forgot to pair with our now cold food, blaming a discrepancy in their ordering system not communicating things to the kitchen. The manager didn't seem to care that her employees were messing up so badly and that her customers were unhappy.

All said and done we received a 25% discount and were not charged for the drinks. I never got my second burrito but was charged for it. (Oh well. It wasn't worth taking home anyways. ) so all-in-all we paid $31.00 for 5 plates of disgusting what seemed likelike cafet food, some good chips and salsa, and drinks .

The only reason it's a one star is for the chips and salsa being good. I won't be going back there for a very long time , hopefully they get their training done and their "system errors" sorted .how...

Update 1-30-25

Nothing to update, still amazing staff, food, experience overall. Changed it up when suegro ordered adobo and I was talking about breakfast (3PM) and waitress suggested eggs with adobo, I just had traditional breakfast. It was really good, quick and friendly service, no complaints whatsoever.

Update 12-3-22

Had dinner with wife, this will now be the fourth visit I've had (two being breakfast and other two lunch/dinner). Brisket tacos for me, Adobo tacos for her, both unanimously satisfied. The frijoles are some of the best I've had, salsa was pissed off this evening, but that's the way we like it, can't control a green chili's heat. We cooked down with some guac, heard them mashing it fresh... A+++

Also great service from the young lady that served us. Super happy, had a Modelo, sorry for partying.

I will start by saying I've only had breakfast here. Had the classic 2 eggs, meat, and hashbrowns with toast. Sausage was two huge patties and yummy. Good service as well, waitress asked when I wanted green chile on the side if I wanted chopped or "The Sauce." Yes, I should have known the price was too crazy good to be true. I was tired and distracted ($10, yes I should have known those prices don't exist). That being said, how do you forget the brisket especially after telling you I was planning to get fast food but after being told about your brisket I was craving it and "what do you have with brisket in it." She ordered my sides and my soda...but it never occurred to me that she'd drop the ball on the brisket. I came back asking to order the brisket and for a discount. After some back and forth with her manager I tell her just 10% because really it's just the principal for me. He comes back a couple minutes claiming he's all out of brisket.

That's how I ended up with their salad and beans with a Taco Bell Mexican Pizza and feeling completely let down after not getting what I was craving. I mean what I got from...
