La Fonda Restaurant — Restaurant in Deming

While visiting Deming New Mexico in the last few days we stopped by la fonda restaurant. According to the reviews it should have been a nice experience. It was not.

We had a party of six of which four ordered the buffet. The other two chose to order straight from the menu. This was a mistake. It took an additional 24 minutes to get the food that was ordered directly from the menu. we asked the server a few times about the food and she kept saying she'd bring it out any minute. The food was extremely greasy. I would understand if the place had been busy but there were only three other people in the place when we walked in.

As with our drinks things were missing when the food finally did come. We repeatedly had to ask the server to bring something that she had forgotten. She acted like it was an inconvenience.

I understand there were not a lot of options for places to go in Deming New Mexico.

Just ate at this place! Never again!! Our server was the daughter of the owner…. Told us she could do what she wanted that her mother owned the place. We came to eat here form outta town… the server did not give us refills we had to walk over and ask for them over and over half of our kids meals came out 15/20 minutes after the rest of the food. Then she charged us a $40 tip of gratuity on a $66 tap!!! When I said no I’m not paying that she said it’s the law!!! FWI I am a serve and gratuity in NM is optional!!! You can not be forced to pay it!! They won’t print your checks it’s all hand written and she was adding up our total on her phone and then added the tip she desired with our permission!! DO NOT EAT HER servers are over charging for their own benefit and refusing to give checks so they can rip people off!!!! Horrible customer service I will be making a report on...

Families with special needs children be aware. I'd like to leave a tip for our waitress today, since I didn't leave one at the restaurant. Next time learn to address parents/adults rather then children when you don't know the situation. Not only was the food the worst Mexican food in deming nm but the service was also. You ruined the spirits of my special needs daughter without any consideration for her feelings. From now on when I explain to her that it's ok to have special needs and that people understand she's going to remember you yelling at her for taking her special meal in and that it's not safe. You really humiliated her and all for what, so you could say you'd let it slide this time, but did you really ?! Why even address it if you weren't going to kick us out...... most importantly why didn't you talk to me...
