The band and person at the door were great. The lady behind the bar seemed to be having a bad day and irritated. Rolling your eyes and saying “ no $5” and turning around with an attitude after you push my receipt in front of me when I make a joke about a Red Bull being $37, because I wasn’t given a total but my card was mid swipe, isn’t in my opinion, something that makes people want to return. It was a joke. Laugh. Smile. I was aware the Red Bull wasn’t $37. I was trying to find a way to let her know she didn’t give me a total and was going to charge my card. Dan's has friendly, accommodating staff who don't pressure you to drink ot get out. It's exactly large enough to hold the biggest party I can stand to attend, so I feel safe there. Ish. And of course it hosts so many of my favorite events, from Brave Combo to the Mountain Goats to skills workshops for fermenting tea or puppetry. A local institution (probably regional, too). This venue brings in bands from across the country and has plenty of affordable as well as free shows. Service is generally solid, prices are affordable and the sound quality is excellent. Maybe what continues to impress me most is how the audience is well-tuned to the act--quiet and respectful during quieter or acoustic shows--raucous and lively for bands cutting loose.
