great Indian street food spot for Denton!
Denton has some good trucks for South Indian street food, and this includes Golconda Xpress. It's located in a washeteria area complex, very close to UNT. They have two picnic benches to sit and eat, but they fill up quickly, especially on weekends.
Now for the menu- they offer South Indian street food with weekend specials with mutton curry on Fridays and chicken curry on Saturdays & Sundays. We got the stuffed mirchi, weekend special of onion dosa with chicken curry, a side of bagara rice, samosa chaat, punugulu, bonda, and chicken Hakka noodles. Their food is spicy. If you want really less spice, make sure to mention that to them (their normal is spicy). The lines were long on the weekend, but the service is pretty fast. All of their tiffin orders come with a side of three chutneys, all which were perfect, but kinda spicy.
The bonda is their signature dish, and for good reason. It was crispy, but perfectly fluffy and soft in the inside. I definitely recommend this. The onion dosa is large, crispy, and went very well with the chicken curry. Chicken curry was spicy, but it's balanced out when you have it with one of the sides (they offer parotta, dosa, poori, and bagara rice as sides). We also tried it with the bagara rice, and it was a two thumbs up! I was a bit hesitant to try the bagara rice because some people really load it up with the clove and whole cinnamon flavor, but there's was perfectly balanced. It had flavor, but was not overpowering.
Stuffed mirchi was a straight 5/5. Their chicken curry and chutneys were spicy, so I was skeptical about trying the mirchi (I was sure my tongue was gonna be on fire and there was no ice cream offered), but it turned out to be one of the best items we had! The stuffing really helps balance out the spice. And the stuffing was done really well with the mixture and peanuts. Punugulu was also good. They're a bit smaller, but still tasty and large portion to keep you filled. We ordered the chicken Hakka noodles less spice, and they did lessen the spice, but I still felt it was kinda spicy. It was pretty tasty though.
The only thing I felt was just okay was the samosa chaat, and maybe it's because you should eat it fast so it doesn't get soggy (which I didn't )
All in all, a solid place to check out...
Read moreHave been there twice for dosas and punugulus but during my last visit, being a North Indian, I couldn’t refrain myself from ordering pav bhaaji and this is what I got for $9. Just one pav and around 100 gms bhaaji 😅. Every vendor gives atleast 2 pavs and double the bhaaji quantity in the same $9. They just gave one and there is additional $2.5 charge for another pav. Bhaaji tasted well but pav was way too hard, could clearly understand that it was not freshly done. No wonder why people stick to just South Indian cuisine there because that is all they can do well. But even their punugulu batter tasted different and not authentic.
For service, we wanted falooda which was being served from another truck but you had to place the order through the main food truck. We went on a busy day and we were unaware of that as last time we had placed faluda and deserts order from the other truck. We waited for 10 mins on that truck but there was no one to attend us. Then from the kitchen section, we ourselves asked the lady in suit about it, she asked us to join the big line in the main food truck. We waited for our turn to come for another good 15 mins and the moment our turn came, the girl closed the window saying I’ll come back in 10 mins. Like seriously? We were so disappointed by them that we left and we went to other newly opened food truck which was more peaceful and offered better tasting food. Never going back to golkonda food truck.
Response to owner: Thank you got addressing this matter and responding with respect. We came on Monday night around 9/9.30pm. We ordered punugulu and pav bhaji. We asked for Bobbatlu too but it...
Read moreWorst customer service, snacks Leva?? Came from Richardson to denton 35-40 miles and faced bad experience. Not at all a good service 🙏🏻 more than all this i expected a hospitable and professional behavior but received a very unpolite behavior.
Editing after owner response :- Ask once to the cashier girl what happened, around 1:15pm - what did they they say to customer who asked for pungulu
She said yes we have & next in secs she said we dont have. Ask her why she said like that… what do i get if i give intentionally reviews to your business?? I believe in karma, so i really faced something which I didn’t liked personally so i gave the review. I’m not first time here i came many time and even suggested to many, so my 1st preference truck also is yours. So when i have this much like towards your truck why do i give intentionally. just ask to your cashier girl, what happened we came around 1:15-1:20 asked for punuglu one of ur guy from back said something and the girl said no we are out of snacks. So as an owner you go ask that cashier girl what did the other person told her.
