A Most Humble Reflection Upon My Visit to the Rising Sun Cafe
It was on a gray and unremarkable morning that I, with earnest appetite and hopeful heart, did embark upon a humble repast at the establishment known, somewhat optimistically, as the Rising Sun Diner. One might have supposed, from such a name, the promise of warmth, hospitality, and the generous replenishment of both cup and spirit. Alas, dear reader, such expectations were soon dashed—like sugar cubes upon the cobblestones of disappointment.
The service, if such a term may be stretched so far, was of a most phantom-like character. Waitstaff moved among the tables with the frequency and cheer of tax collectors, and though we signaled with the desperation of marooned sailors, our pleas for water and napkins were met with naught but indifference, or, at best, reluctant compliance after multiple entreaties. Dishes arrived with the fanfare of lost luggage: late, mismatched, and requiring repeated inquiry.
As for the fare itself, it bore the mark of culinary resignation. One could not call it offensive—no, that would require too much character—but rather the gray middle ground of mediocrity, where flavor neither shines nor offends, but hovers like a tepid fog over a river of unmet potential.
The parking, a matter of great importance to any hungry traveler, was as scarce as courtesy inside the diner itself—a paltry offering of spaces which tested both one’s patience and parking prowess.
In summary, my experience at the Rising Sun was rather like the British weather: dreary, underwhelming, and best avoided unless absolutely necessary.

(We definitely visited but won't be again for a very long time). Also unfortunate the lack of appreciation for creative writing. Guess some people prefer poor grammar and...
Read moreWe arrived around 2:30 pm. The place was nice inside and out and the tables were all clean. There was outdoors seating but that was not an option with it being almost 100° outside. We got our table and was quickly greeted with our waitress. She took our drink order and then our food order. I ordered the hangover burger. Description from website: 8oz smash burger with one sunnyside up egg, crispy hash, cheddar cheese & two strips of bacon on a brioche bun with sriracha mayo with a side was fries. The hash browns were crispy. The burger patty was juicy and seasoned well. The bacon crispy but not over done and the cheese melted holding everything together. Then you through that egg in there cooked to your liking!!!! Mine was over medium, the whites were cooked and the yolk slowly rolled over the rest of the burger with every bite. The fries were really the only “let down”. They were all done and tasted great. Do I think they could’ve used a little more color and just a smidge more crunch, yeah but they were done and raw or under cooked. Son got the chicken and waffles. The waffle was fluffy and crisp. The chicken strips had that crunch and were juicy. I asked him several times what he thought and all I got was it was good. I mean he ate it all and just need syrup. He didn’t use any ketchup or ranch for the chicken strips which had me surprised! Since he didn’t give me much I put I asked if we came back here would that be what you ordered again he said yes! That’s also a Yes for me on the burger, although there are several things that sounded great on the menu. If you are near the Buc-ee's in Denton, TX and want good lunch and or breakfast check them out. They are just around the corner. Staff was great...
Read moreWe were very excited to try brunch here for Mother’s Day and while I totally understand more of a wait on a special day we were less than impressed with everything else. We were sat outside on the patio which is totally fine except it felt like we were ignored. After being sat, we waited 15 minutes without anyone coming by, my husband had to go inside to ask for menus. After getting the menus it still took another 10 minutes for our waiter to come out. She was very lovely but busy so we just felt like we were forgotten outside. She took our drink order and that took another 10-15 minutes to come out. We had 2 small children and my husband had to take them on a walk around because they got so restless. By the time our food came out, we had been there an hour and a half. My husband’s food was wrong but at that point we weren’t going to wait any longer. They forgot syrup and the salsa for my food so my husband had to go inside again to ask for it. By that point it was absolutely miserable outside and we didn’t even feel like eating. I’ve never wanted to walk out of a restaurant so badly before. The food was great, I have no complaints there but the service and the wait was absolutely horrible. Again, I do expect to wait longer on Mother’s Day but this was beyond that. This was the worst brunch experience I’ve ever had and completely put a damper on...
