The Bearded Monk — Restaurant in Denton

After my first visit, I was hooked and told all the beer geeks I know. I've heard great things about this place but it took me years to finally go. Now it's a must stop whenever I'm in Denton. Go as soon as you can!

Phenomenal beer selection on draught (21 taps) and canned/bottled. Offer flights. Fair prices. The bartenders were happy to help, including when I asked for water or to taste a beer before buying it.

There are events scheduled most nights such as live music, open mic night, or Nerd Nite (TED talks with beer). Chill place.

Check out their facebook page for what's on tap and events. What was on tap wasn't up to date the day of my first visit, so a few beers were already gone; hopefully that doesn't happen often. Regardless, I had a great experience. Regarding someone else's review that there are too many TX beers on tap, I didn't think so. To me, there were plenty of non-TX beers and many of the TX beers I saw were uncommon - many of them I hadn't seen before (FYI 13 TX / 21 at the time of this review).

I’ve never seen so many different kinds of beer. I went up to the counter and I said “I’ll have one of everything”. The nice lady working behind the counter laughed, and I smile, there’s a chemistry building here, we’re deep into each other’s eyes, but then I grab her by the forearm and say, “Hey! That wasn’t a joke. I’ll have one of everything”. The twinkle in her eye quickly merged into fear as she starts pouring beer after beer. I’m drinking them as fast as I can, but the glasses of full beer start to pile up and I don’t even know what to do at this point. So to save face I tell her that I’m going to the bathroom. When I get up I purposely slip and CRACK! My head hits the bar counter so hard I’m out like a light. I wake up to a circle of people around me. One of them helps me up and I forgot what I was doing there in the first place, but I see beer in front of me so I start chugging them down. 5/5 great place to get cool and...

So I saw an ad on Facebook for a Christmas themed beer that seemed pretty interesting to me so I made a trip specifically to try it/ buy a growler of it, and the bar tender there trashed this same beer to another customer, seconds after I asked for a sample and seconds before I asked to buy it. After leaving, I felt like I had gone out of my way to buy barbie’s first smirnoff ice (not that there’s even anything wrong with buying “girly beer” or what people perceive to be as such) and I feel far less than thrilled that I made this trip. Which is extra silly because the whole point of the Facebook post was to try and get me to come buy this specific beer, and it actually worked!

I’m still saying 4 stars because I like this place a lot and one bad taste in my mouth doesn’t make a bad establishment. I even bring my friends here when they visit because I think it’s a unique Denton staple that deserves...
