I’m going with a 4.5 stars. We are SO excited for TAG in Eastbridge. We've needed a restaurant like this badly, and loved TAG when it was over in Congress Park. At this point, we have already been three times (I know...I know, but I told you we were excited) and we've made a point to order different dishes each time. While we will continue to return, we've had some mixed experiences over the past few weeks that I thought I would share. Hopefully this helps with the refinement process as they are still very new and working out the kinks.
The first time we went, we all ordered Old School burgers. They were delicious, though mine was a wee bit pink inside. The meat to bun/toppings/meat ratio was perfect for me. The fries and mac-n-cheese were both tasty and my kids loved their shakes! The second time we went, my husband had the Salmon Bowl (he said it was excellent), my son had the ribs (very tasty but a bit spicy for him) and I had the Asian salad with chicken. To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by this salad, but it was fine. I also had a boozy vanilla shake, which was absolutely delicious! I definitely see many more boozy shakes in my future. The third time we went, my husband had a Tijuana burger (he reported this was now his favorite burger), my son had a Caesar salad with chicken and I had the Thai Chicken Bowl. Unfortunately, the rotisserie chicken in both dishes was tough, chewy and basically inedible. Other than that, I thought the curry dish tasted very good and would definitely order again. Sidenote: it does have mushrooms which are not mentioned in the menu. It was not hard to pick them out, but that's something people may want to know. The chicken wings were a good size and had a lot of potential, but were also a bit tough. I am not sure if this was just a bad night for chicken, but I'm adding it to my review not to nitpick, but because I REALLY want this place to succeed.
Also, thank you for carrying STEM. It's my favorite cider and too few restaurants have a decent dry cider option! I 100% recommend this restaurant - especially for their burgers - and we will absolutely be back. The service is also very good despite the fact that it is always busy and the vibe is fun - we played a family game of Uno after dinner and enjoyed hanging out on the patio very much. Welcome to Eastbridge TAG - we are happy to have you!
ETA: Visit #4 was excellent. My son and I went back to the Old School burgers & this time they asked “Pink or No Pink” and mine came with no pink! Yay! I ate every single bite. My husband went with the Prime Rib Dip & the bite I stole of that was really, really tasty & my other son did the BBQ bacon burger. Top...
Read moreMy wife, my 11-year-old daughter, and myself went here on Saturday night. After dining at the old Tag Burger in Congress Park before it closed, and eating at Guardand Grace I had high expectations and hopes. To start, when we were seated it took a long while for the waiter to come talk to us. Worst part was a table that came in after us was served first. He was probably overworked. My wife ordered a build your own lettuce wrapped burger with the water.I got a build your own lettuce wrapped burger with a diet Coke, and we shared a wedge salad. My daughter got the Old School burger with fries and an Izze. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The wedge salad was okay. The bacon on it was tasty but the chopped romaine just almost seemed like iceberg lettuce. My wife's burger was missing cheese that she ordered. When she went to cut into it, the burger was very hard to cut into because it was so well done. Mind you the waiter never asked us how we wanted it cooked. My burger was also well done but not as hard as hers. I ordered an egg on mine, I'm used to them being runny on top. I thought they forgot the egg but it was right on top the meat patty under the toppings. The heat of the burger cooked it so much that it was like an hard omelet on top. The waiter never came over to check on us. Maybe if he did my wife would have spoke up about her overdone burger missing cheese. We both agreed the burgers were tasty just extremely overdone. When I got the bill it was over $90 with tip. I looked to make sure we didn't make the mistake and forget to order cheese, but we did. When I was looking at the burgers on the order they both said "no pink". Which I thought was funny because the waiter never asked us how we wanted our burgers done. We all left pretty disappointed especially for the price. I think it's going to be a hard sell for me to go back and try this place again after this experience. There are lots of other burger places in the metro that seem to have a higher standard. Looking at some of the other reviews, maybe we had a one-off experience. Or the staff was just having an off night. Hope you have a better experience than us for a $30 per person or more...
Read moreTag's latest concept felt a bit like he wanted to try making a Ruby Tuesday's. I'm not sure this one is gonna last. The restaurant felt understaffed, with a bit of a longer wait for service than I would expect from this sort of restaurant. It was also kinda dead, so maybe the staffing levels were right on? Strangely, the woodfire pizza place across the street was slammed.
The buns were fantastic, a nice bread for a burger. The burger itself was decent, with a "wider not taller" difference between the 1/4 and 1/2 lb burger. Unfortunately, this left the quarter pounder looking a bit under stuffed and the half pounder looking like someone misjudged their bun size. They referred to them as smash burgers at various places on the menu, but didn't feature any lacy, burned crunchy bits on the edges, so I'm not really sure it counts as a smash burger. The flavors they offered on the premade burgers were well balanced.
The fries were good, with a modest portion size that looked small but filled me up. Onion rings came out a bit greasier than they should be, feeling like maybe the oil temp was a bit too low or they weren't cold enough going on.
Beer prices trended about a dollar higher than I would have expected, and the menu had a nickle and dime sort of feel, with every burger option feeling just a bit more expensive than it needed to be. I've never seen a build your own burger menu that charged you a dollar for ketchup, no matter how fancy. It would have felt less like they were counting coins if they bumped the base price up by a dollar and included the first sauce free. Who buys a burger with no sauce anyway?
Kind of a bummer, I really expected a little bit more from...
