On September 21st, we took our 3 year old XL bully to Hershey animal hospital. Our bully had a yellow belly, yellow mouth, and yellow eyes. This was a sudden, did not happen over time. Harley was triaged as “yellow.” My dog laid on the floor for 4 hours before being seen. Had we not spoken up about the yellowing spreading, she would have continued to lay there. Aside from being physically yellow, she was a happy dog who walked herself into the vet. When Harley was finally taken back, they did blood work. I’m not sure why they hadn’t done bloodwork when we arrived. When Harley’s results came back, the vet with zero empathy in her body, told us Harley is in end of stage liver failure. So my dog that was coded as “yellow” is all of a sudden dying? The vet recommended to us that we euthanize her that night with zero confirmation that she was terminally ill. The only way to determine if she was terminally ill, was for her to have an ultrasound. We were onboard with that until the “catch.” In order to get an ultrasound, she would need to hospitalized with a qoute starting at $4,000. The ultrasound wouldn’t happen until Tuesday. At this point we are in shock, traumatized, and confused how she could make it another 48 hours there to get an ultrasound, but we were advised not to take her home as she would die. There was absolutely no way we were euthanizing her that night in a cold unfamiliar place without her family. NOTHING made sense. We decided we would take Harley home and make a call to schedule a home euthanasia. The vet tech we had was wonderful. She actually took the time to research and answer all these questions that just kept coming. We were sent home with 3 different types of meds. I looked all those meds up after the fact. We paid more than double what they cost on Chewy, Amazon, Etc. I am so relieved we didn’t let them talk us into euthanizing Harley that night. It’s been 2 weeks since she got sick. Since then, she’s returned to her normal color, no more yellow eyes, no more yellow mouth. She had absolutely no vomotting or diarrhea . Eating, playing, going for long walks, loving her family. So Hershey, my question is was it Harley’s breed that prompted a push for an unjustified euthanasia. Are you just in the business of making money and not actually helping animals? I will never EVER bring another pet there.

I cannot believe I am writing this review after I sat in the exam room waiting for the doctor to return with the fate of my sweet boy, Warner, reading these reviews LOOKING for something that would tell me "he's going to be ok!" I called 5 OTHER ERs in the area & their wait times were so long my dog would have died had we waited. I had no idea this amazing hospital existed! So I drove 28 minutes across town and he was wheeled in & triaged immediately. His condition was DIRE. His kidneys, breathing, heart, potassium, sodium, electrolytes & other levels were BOTTOMING out. I was devastated. I am a crazy dog mom & would do ANYTHING for my pups! After initial tests we were talking the WORST scenario (I only rescued him 3 years ago but he is 8 years young!), then the doctor ran 1 more test! It was positive saying Addison's disease! And that meant TREATABLE!!! I was so relieved. But he still had to survive the night & the fluids & meds had to to do their job. I called at midnight to check on my sweet boy & the nurse Chris was SO kind to me and gave me an amazing update! Warner was up & walking & even eating a little bit! (He had not eaten for 8 days NOT like him!!) Chris fell in love with him. And I was so grateful and felt like I could at least sleep a little knowing he was in AMAZING HANDS @ Hershey Animal ER! Every single staff member (nurses, docs, front desk) I dealt with were SOOOO PATIENT AND KIND! Unbelievably kind! I I've dealt with a lot of vets, even animal hospitals! But this one was the BEST ever and I will never forget this experience. If you are THINKING about taking your loved one to this ER --- DON'T WAIT RUN! They have various finance options to help with the cost. You can do this! Start a Go Fund Me if you need to, sending it to friends & family! Whatever it takes but GO - you will never look back and I will FOREVER be grateful to this ER.

I took my boy Zac here on Tuesday April 1st because he was not acting normal. He's usually a very velcro dog. He don't like me out of his sight but this particular day he was not following me or coming when I called him, his tongue was really pale. I called them, and then took him in. They where all very nice, they was all up front about the costs of everything. My boy needed to be hospitalized for 24 hours because he was severely dehydrated and lethargic. They had originally thought he had Addison's. I had them do the Addison's test to rule it out. Mean while I was able to bring my boy home 24 hours later with medication for lyme just to be safe since he had antibodies, and some other stuff for his digestive track, he had a lot going on. He ended up not having Addison's but Pseudo Addison's which is caused by Whipworm. How he got those I'm not entirely sure but I'm still very greatful for these wonderful people for saving my boy. He was there again 3 days later for something entirely different, and they was so helpful and nice. He stayed for another 12 hours in their care. My boy is recovering really well and I thank these wonderful vets and staff for all they did for him. While it was really costly the fact they went above and beyond for my boy means the world to me. Thank you so much for everything you guys have done for him. Hopefully I never have to come again because I don't want my dogs getting sick, but if they do I know where I will bring them. Very friendly and caring staff.

I am not happy with this place at all period I've been there twice called ahead like the website says and ask, do I need to make an appointment? This was at 3 o'clock in the morning. The staff was very rude and said no, you don't have to call, you just need to bring them in. I said that's not what your website said. She said, well, which website did you use, and I said, Well How many do you have? She said just bring them in , you don't need an appointment. But it's a 6 to 8 hour minimum wait. So I waited a little and decided at 5:30 in the morning. I needed to take this poor little kitten in that had an upper respiratory lung infection on a Saturday well Sunday morning. So I couldn't get to my regular Vet unti monday, if there was a caclation, another story. So I got there around 6:30 in the morning and they were polite. Check me and the kitten in. Which was not mine but she chose me over the dumpster. 6 to 8 weeks old maybe I dont know. The kitten went back to triage right away. Before I finished the paperwork the cat was backed out from triage six thirty in the morning. There were two people ahead of me 1cat, 1 dog. I sat there for the next 4 hours so did both of them. For the next two hours nobody else came to the Hospital. This was my 2nd time there so I was being aware of the timing because I wasn't very happy the first time. Exactly the minium wait time. 20 minuets prior to the minium wait time, just like the first time Exactly until the veterinarian came in. So I got the kitten out of the crate for her to examine. She said, oh thats ok, your cat has a upper respiratory lung infection. I said well you didn't even look at her. She said no I did the triage when you came in this morning. Well that was like leaving a wet fart in church. It did not go well with me. I said you knew since 6:30 this morning that this kitten had an upper respiratory infection and you made her sit here another 4 hours without medication just so you could make me be here for minimum 4 hour wait period and try to sell me a bunch of products i dont want or need. Exactly 4hrs, just like the first time I was there, like I said I was watching the time. I said, so you couldn't give me 10 minutes of your time in the last 4 hours. I said I also saw the two people that were here before me and I timed them and they were here exactly four hours. You could have had me out of here in 15 minutes and charged the same amount of money. She said well I had other things to do and it's not about the quantity it's about the quality. I said quality? I said, first off you should not put me in a waiting room on the other side of the employee break room. I heard how busy you were, every word for the last two hours I've been in this room. You make me sit here for 4 hours. Now you're telling me you don't have the proper medicine to give her anyway just like my cat with the ear infection, you are out of what you would normally give them but here's something close to it. You'll need to see your regular Vet as soon as you can. Now, because I call you out on your bullcrap and lies, I was beside the break room, BAN ME FROM EVER COMING BACK HERE EVER AGAIN and say that will be $185.00. The 2nd time. But their the professionals, so I'm full of crap and there lies override my truths. Cover their ass by banning me, which is fine I never want to take another animal there ever again. Now ever since my non appointment, on which ever website, wait times are 1 to 2 hours. Huh! You cant make this stuff up. I do not recommend them for any service you can avoid. Lowzy service, improper medications, arrogant...

If I could give no stars I would. Took my dog there on a Saturday afternoon who was bleeding from an open wound. Web site said one hour wait, called receptionist and she confirmed time. Got there in 15 minutes. Sat for three hours before even being seen by a tech. During that time several dogs and cats were taken in and immediately taken to the back to be seen. When I asked I was told that we had to wait because they were more serious than my dog. This was even before we were seen to determine what was going on! Sat for four more hours until Vet checked on her. Then she misdiagnosed the problem as an anal gland abscess which could rupture at any time and she couldn't express them. Recommended a costly procedure requiring anesthesia, oxygen, catheter, and fluids which I verbally agreed to but had to wait for a written estimate. Took another 20 minutes for the estimate and I was informed when I asked when it would take place that it could be anywhere from six to eight hours later. I thought it was urgent when I was told rupture at any time. Even got that in writing. I was told that there were animals that were more critical than mine and we would have to wait. I asked what if animals kept coming in sicker than mine would I get bumped again. To that I was told YES. At that point I asked for the two medications that were going to be prescribed after the procedure was to be completed and that we would be leaving. Paid $240.00 for basically some amoxicillin and a pain med. Left the office at 11:00 P.M. EIGHT HOURS after we got there. Took my dog to the VCA Willow Mill animal hospital on Monday. Vet found that both anal glands were not infected, both could be easily expressed, and the open infected wound had nothing to do with the anal glands. I contacted Hershey when I got back and informed them of the findings and that I was not really happy with what had happened and I wanted to make them aware. Got a call from a Vet (not the one seen on Saturday) and I told her the same thing as the receptionist I had spoken to. Fifteen minutes later I received a call from VCA saying Hershey had requested my dogs medical records (without my permission). Later I reached out to Hershey in an email and felt that because of the problem with the initial triage, misdiagnosis, and the inordinately long wait that they should at least credit me the $130.00 exam fee. To that the answer was yes we messed up but so sorry we did examine your dog and even if it could have been done better by someone with no veterinary training whatsoever, an exam is an exam and I owed them the money. I would drive to Shores Animal Emergency Center even if my dog stopped breathing on the doorstep of Hershey Animal...

On Saturday December 28, 2024, my dog started having seizures a little after 1am. My mom and I drove him to the Hershey Animal Hospital. They did blood work and a urinalysis, the blood work showed mildly low electrolytes but everything else was normal. The doctor said all they could do was monitor him but that he believed that he had issues with his brain in the cranium and that euthanasia was best for him because they couldn’t figure out what could be wrong with him. My dog had been seizing for hours and I didn’t know if he’d make it till morning. They told me he wasn’t responding to any medication. So I agreed to the euthanasia. I signed the consent form. A woman was explaining the process to me because I’ve never experienced anything like this. My dog is 3 years old and had never had seizures before. I was really upset and kept asking if it was possible if he got into something but they didn’t know based off the tests they did. My dog hadn’t walked or moved in hours and his back leg was limp. The doctor said it was because of the seizures but he wasn’t completely sure if it was actually a seizure he was having but because of what he was doing it was the best way to describe it. Before they came into the room to do the euthanasia, someone from the desk wanted to collect a form of payment for the emergency visit. My dog was laying on the table and I asked her to adjust him because it looked like he was going to fall off. When she went to adjust him, my dog suddenly stood up on all 4s. I was surprised and picked him up. He jumped out of my arms and started walking and sniffing around the room. I told the lady to get the doctor and that he should stay for a couple of hours for observation. My dog stayed at the hospital for about 12hrs with no seizures. He was walking and eating and drinking just fine. It’s been a few weeks now and he is doing fine. I feel like they didn’t do enough for him and that they wanted to put him to death without a valid diagnosis. They had no idea what caused the “ seizure” and if he even needed to be euthanized. I called a day or two later to speak to a supervisor about the care he received. She told me that her higher ups would contact me by the end of that week, but nobody ever reached out. Now I am burdened with an almost $2,000 bill even though they did the bare minimum and never figured out what was...
