The food is great if you are able to order it. If it was about the food, I'd score them at 5 and comment that sometimes the meat is a little short in the Pad Thai and Pad See Eww. I score them at 4 because their organization and ability to communicate is consistently frustrating. This happens about 20% of the time and is just under my threshold of trying to not deal with them.
I really like their beef Pad Thai, and I've never had a bad choice from their menu. That said, about 15% of the time when I try to call in to place an order no one answers the phone. The wait time they tell you to expect is normally estimated too short. I've found it is best to show up 10-15 minutes after they tell you.
I really like the food. Quality-wise, I don't have a preference between them and Cool Basil. However, I don't eat there more because the ordering process can be frustrating.
If they aren't answering their phone and you are looking for similar but don't want to go to West Des Moines for Cool Basil, Aroy Dee on Indianola Road is a...
Read moreWe tried this place after AroyDee shut down. We were really disappointed. We got pad Thai, pad see ew, and basil beef. The pad see ew and basil beef tasted very similar with a lack of flavor, could not taste any basil in the basil beef. The shrimp pad thai had the most flavor but still lacking. Also the beef in the basil beef and pad see ew dishes looked like it was boiled instead of a deep caramelization color from being seared, and it lacked flavor and tenderness. Compared to our previous Thai restaurant this food falls short and we won’t order again. The people were very nice, but flavor and quantity for cost is lacking (again maybe we were spoiled by a previous place and have unrealistic...
Read moreAs we were sitting here waiting to order, I realized I have been dinning here for about 25 years now. The food is always excellent and we keep coming back for our favorites. Do not come here if you are in a hurry or really hungry, as the service is usually pretty slow. However, tonight the service wasn't too bad. You have to order the Angry Catfish, fried chicken wings, and papaya salad as these are a few of their signature dishes. Also, this is the only place I know of in the metro that serves khao poon (let me know if you know of another). We also really enjoy their pad sew ew, pad thai, and laap. If you have been here, it is definitely a hidden gem on the south side, just don't...
