I was in Des Moines for work, and was told by my colleagues that I HAD to try Palmer’s. Specifically for their Wisconsin/Cheddar Soup. I love cheese, so was eager to navigate the skywalk to find it during my lunch break. The restaurant is bright, open and has a good atmosphere. It took me a few moments to understand how to order. After seeing people go from station to station - I picked up on the counter service and then pay at the end. Maybe a little way-finding or instructions posted somewhere would help those unfamiliar. Anyway, I chose the Melt specialty sandwich (ham, roast turkey, Swiss, co-jack, cheddar on pumpernickel kaiser, steamed). And the Wisconsin Cheddar soup as recommended. The sandwich was delicious and had an ample serving of meat. The soup reminded me of hot cheez-wiz. Which, not complaining - it’s as advertised. Service was friendly and reasonably timely given the amount of...
Read morePalmers has always been a great experience for me. I’m only in town once and awhile for work but always make it here for lunch. It is conveniently located in the skywalk really close to where I work. The ordering process can be a little hard to figure out when you walk in but after watching a few people I figured it out. Maybe some signs on how it works. They have different sections for sandwiches, soups, and salads. Then you pay at the end. I usually get the chef salad with the creamy garlic dressing which is fantastic. Salads also come with a roll which they have a wide variety of options. Everything is tossed together in front of you and can add or take out things. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I am usually here alone and it’s a great spot with lots of space for solo eaters as well as tables of 4 or more. Definitely recommend for a...
Read moreMeh. Not bad, not great. Over rated in my opinion. I also feel it's overpriced, for the fact it's average tasting food. 2 sandwiches. 1 cookie (unedible), 1 small bag of chips, and 1 small pasta salad (part of the lunch box deal), totaled $26.82. Additionally I asked the employee working behind the glass salad section if any of one of the items contained cucumbers, as this was my preference. She stated "Yes, yes this one." Thankfully I was not asking for an allergy reason, because clearly she didn't understand me. The salad was heavy with mayonnaise, and had broccoli, cheddar cheese, red onion, tomato and pasta ... zero cucumber. I personally wouldn't return...
