I arrived at about 2 AM and was grateful that Friday and Saturday were designated as 24 hour days. It has been a grueling day... I just wanted to be put into the furthest booth and left alone to work on all the paperwork ahead of me. The first person I encountered was Mike, proud shift manager. There was something amiss, and there was tension. I know I wasn't ;looking my best, but surely whatever dynamics were happening had nothing to do with me. I was polite when I relayed my wishes, but he was quite firm and said I would be sitting in the open part of the dining room with the other guests and would not be seated in a closed area. Actually, I had not even thought about being in a closed section. I assured him it would be perfectly fine to be in a corner of the open areas, but I also needed an outlet to plug in my phone that was at 2%. "There is no place in this restaurant where patrons can access an outlet." Disappointed, I had no choice but to just be seated. but my eyes found a strip outlet at the host station, right behind the booth that was front and center for all the activity in the guest area. So be it... I asked Mike, when I finally caught him again, if I could do just that. There came over him a sudden calmness and his tone softened and he said, "Sure, if your cord will reach, you're very welcome to use it." it was as if "Having-a-bad-Day-Mike" had gone out for a smoke and tagged his more genial twin in to finish his shift for him. Next came Lillian, my server. Impossibly long and obviously heavy eyelashes would have transported her across town if she worked outdoors and a gust of wind caught her. I was there for a couple of hours and I still can't tell you the color of her eyes. She was friendly and answered most of my questions and what I appreciated most was her honesty if she didn't know the answer to any of my queries. She did say something that really made me angry. The dish I ordered was offered with a choice of four bacon strips or four sausage links. I opted for two bacon and two sausage. Then she asked if I wanted links or patties. I asked for one of each. Nope, can't do that because the portions are predetermined.(?) Fine, two patties and two bacon strips without being crunchy. She took my order to the kitchen, but very shortly she was headed back to my table and it was written all over her face how much she did not want to do whatever she was about to do next. She came over and with an obviously heavy heart and perhaps an edge directed at the person who sent her to tell me that the restaurant will only serve 2 patties if I didn't want four links. Well, sure one patty is equivalent to two links, she assures me. She did not believe a word of it, either, her voice betraying the corporate nonsense. I was paying $15 for a plate, and they were going to quibble over a sausage? Seriously? This was next level petty. I said just bring me two bacon strips and one patty if that was your policy. I wasn't going to let that ruin my night. The food was excellent, and one patty left me wanting more. I just cannot get over the link controversy... Mike was very accommodating the rest of my visit, and Lillian couldn't have been better. I will surely return. I was treated like an old friend, and perhaps I will become one... Update: I had to re-write this review when more information was shared with me. What I did not know was the restaurant was just recovering from an emergency situation as they were in the midsts of four tornadoes touching down all around them in the greater Des Moines area. I had been driving for hours and had no idea what was occurring as I walked into the place. With this new information, it now makes so much sense and just goes to show you a life lesson I almost missed: Don't judge others too quickly because you just don't know what they're going through. My prayers are with those affected by the...
Read moreService at this place has definitely gone downhill. I used to love going to Perkins. Tonight I went on their website and ordered delivery from them. Apparently they used DoorDash to do their deliveries no problem however when our food was delivered my food was missing so I called Perkins to see about getting this resolved and the first person I spoke with said that yes my food was sitting in the window they weren't sure if I wanted my gravy on the side or on it. I inquire that if my food is sitting in the window why it wasn't delivered with the rest of the food to which apparently there was an issue with the DoorDash driver. I inquired about a refund and they said that I would need to speak with the morning manager or I could speak to the manager then about maybe getting the order delivered. I inquire the manager's name which was Christy and was told to call back 10 minutes later when she would be available. I called 10 minutes later no answer so I tried another 10 minutes later still no answer. I was able to finally get through and was then placed on hold to speak with the manager for over 20 minutes. I hung up called back got an answer and inquired who I was speaking with and found out I was speaking with Christy the manager and when she realized who I was and what I was calling about she got very rude that it wasn't their fault that it was DoorDash's fault that I would have to contact them even though it was their website that I placed the order on they received payment for my food directly not through DoorDash and then proceeded to hang up on me. So I then contacted DoorDash who in then said yes I would have to get a refund through Perkins however they would contact the representatives for me. I am beyond upset about how I was treated by this company representative of Perkins. Doubtful I will ever give them...
Read moreWe had a good dining experience. Upon arrival we were seated immediately. The hostess brought us Waters right away and droped off our menus. The waitress gave us time to look at our menus after she introduced herself. She saw that we were ready to order and we ordered and she brought drinks out right away. Our food was about a 12 minute wait. One of us ordered dinner one of us ordered breakfast but that didn't make it take any longer. Before we were served she had brought out all the condiments including syrup. After the 12 minute wait the food was served it was served hot and tasted decent for the type of restaurant. Portions were of good-sized I didn't feel cheated everything was very good and tasty. Restaurant was very clean, tables were clean silverware was not spotted it was shiny there was plenty of napkins the water tasted filtered did not taste like tap water. Bathrooms were clean. There was plenty of toilet paper. There was a slight smell in the bathroom but nothing I would complain about. Our bill arrived after we were finished eating and she cleared the plates. Prices were inexpensive. Overall, friendly staff, clean restaurant, tasty food, fast service excellent pricing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will...
