If I could give Rocky's ten stars I would. The pizza, lasagna and salad are wonderful here, and the service is friendly and fun; but the real treat about Rocky's New York Pizza is the atmosphere. My boyfriend and I visit DHS often for the jacuzzis and weather, and make it a point each time to hit up Rocky's, and each of us have noticed walking in is like taking a step back in time, and to specifically America between 1981 and 1985.
From the decor to the atmosphere to the prices, you almost think you're wandering in a Judge Reinhold movie. Pac-Man and other video arcade games -- all of them operational -- lurk in just the little nook in the place they should and always were, back then. The signage showing the menu and prices are complete Eighties-tier: emphasis prices. Rocky's owners seem unaware post-80's costs went up. Things still cost what they did then!
The only thing I would change about Rocky's is the jukebox music selection: if they switched it to New Romantic and Big Eighties (Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Heaven 17, etc), they'd be a National Landmark. This is the last Eighties-style restaurant in America. If you're heading to or through Palm Springs, stop in Desert Hot Springs and do NOT MISS this pizzeria. Wear your leather jacket, boys, or your Molly Ringwald porkpie hat, girls. I'm not joking. It ads to the experience. Put away your phone and forget you're in this decade.
Rocky's will take you back in history. The last time I was there I...
Read moreWe recently had the chance to try Rocky’s New York Pizza, as it came highly recommended by friends. With eager anticipation, we ordered the homemade garlic bread and a sausage and mushroom pizza to go. The short drive home felt like torture, as the enticing aroma wafted through the car, making our mouths water.
Upon opening the pizza box, our eyes lit up at the sight of the beautifully presented pie. The crust was cooked to perfection, golden and crispy, promising a delightful base for our meal. However, the excitement quickly faded once we took our first bites. Unfortunately, the pizza itself lacked the robust flavor we had hoped for. The toppings seemed to fall flat, leaving us disappointed.
As for the garlic bread, while it was undoubtedly fresh, it was slightly overcooked. We missed the rich garlic flavor that is a hallmark of great Italian cooking, which left the bread feeling more like an afterthought than a standout side.
In our household, pizza is usually a leftover treat, but this experience didn’t quite elevate it to that level. While Rocky’s may have the potential with its appealing crust, the overall execution on flavor left us wanting more. It’s safe to say we won’t be rushing back...
Read moreJust tried Rocky’s for the first time. Awesome food!! We had their antipasto salad, large Rocky’s special pizza and ended with cannoli. Due to health restrictions, we could only do take out. The food was ready on time, packed and ready to go as promised.
The salad is huge! Plenty for four or in our case two for two days! Large chunks of cheese, peppers, olives on a bed of fresh lettuce. Dressing on the side to make the trip home. This could be a meal on its own!
The pizza weighed a ton! Packed with pepperoni, sausage, olives, onions and peppers. Loads of cheese! We added anchovies. The crust was crisp and actually sweet. We went for the large to hold half back in the freezer for another meal.
We thought we’d try the cannoli for a change in deserts. After the salad and pizza, that’s going to have to wait! The look amazing and smell rich as ever. We just can’t possibly fit it in after all that food!
Great food. The restaurant looks awesome and a friendly place to visit once the quarantine is lifted. For now, give them a try and tip well! They’re working hard and making...
