Love this place! Nice mature mixed crowd.
This placed opened in 1980. In 1988 I moved from Detroit to Los Angeles. I'm a African American male. I've gone to many Detroit bars in prior to moving to L.A. but I never even knew the Hayloft existed. Just last month I was visiting family in Detroit, and a friend told me about this place. The Hayloft has a more mature mixed crowd (35 to 60, black, white, hispanic) just like what I've become used to in L.A. The ambience is Casual, Fun, Friendly, but not over the top with drama. Good drinks, decent music, and friendly bartenders. Even the security guy in the parking lot was friendly and helpful. I'll be coming back to Detroit this coming Thanksgiving with my partner. The Friday after Thanksgiving, I will definitely be stopping by the Hayloft again. If you're an interracial gay couple visiting Detroit, you'll find yourself quite comfortable...
Read moreI had my doubts at the beginning of the rebrand, but it seems the new ownership has found a happy medium between their vision, and what we expect as patrons of the only real bear bar in the Detroit area. The service is quick and friendly, and drinks are fairly priced. Along with their new credit card system, you'll never forget your card at the bar again! It's a very above par bar experience. The new lighting can be a bit jarring at times with new colored smartbulbs, but the lat few events I've been to have been wonderfully mixed by DJ's who transition flawlessly and play music to the crowd, rather than trying to cram different genres together. I was skeptical for a while, but ive definitely been won over, and look forward to the next event I attend there! Oh! The events have covers now, but they're reasonable, and usually come with a coat (or clothes for under...
Read moreThis used to be my home bar. Had wonderful years of memories from this bar. Moved to Florida were I owned my own bar. Was home on a visit this weekend and was amazed at how this once loved establishment has sunk so far. Gone is the warmness that Eddie and Len had put into this small local bar. I should have bought it then. Gone are the friendly older clientele that was the bread and butter to cover the overhead in the late afternoons.. Gone are the respectful bar tenders. Gone are the reasonable prices. Lots of fat seedy types now. So sad to say I will never ever walk into that bar again that was my favorite place to see and meet friends I was told it was a new owner from Florida. This is not Florida thank God and am sure you won't have it long. Had a great time at...
