I visited this restaurant on July 18. I immediately noticed how dirty and unkempt the walls, baseboards and windowsills were but I prayed over my food and decided to give it a try. Big mistake: I ordered shrimp and grits and scrambled eggs. The shrimp and grits had only 3 shrimp, plus one shrimp tail that was missing the meat portion. The grits had a oily film settling on top that was unappetizing. The grits themselves were of decent consistency but lacked flavor overall. The eggs were just scrambled eggs with a special seasoning on top. They were scrambled hard—not my preference but they were okay. The waitress made no mention of the up charge for shrimp and grits… As soon as I received my food, I was attacked by FLIES—not one or two, an unacceptable plethora of them. There was clearly evidence of infestation or maggots close by. I killed two at my table and turned around to notice there were several dead flies on the windowsill behind me, one on the wall and a dead one in the flower water at my table. Yuck!!! In my opinion, flies are the nastiest and dirtiest insects ever. I couldn’t finish my food….I informed the waitress of this issue and she stated that she would bring this to the manager’s attention. She also noted that they kept the back door open. I am confused as to why when there are different apparatuses-screens and such, to keep flies out but still catch a breeze, etc. A different person came to collect my bill- no evidence of being a manager. This was confusing. I also noticed that my original bill that was handed to me was $17. The receipt that was returned to me after my card was swiped was $21.42. They made sure to include gratuity without my consent. She new lady returned the receipt and asked me to sign the receipt but there was no official signature line. This was very sketchy but I didn’t have the energy to put up a fight after fighting flies while trying to eat. Although my initial waitress was okay (besides the misinformation about the upcharge) it was very confusing and unprofessional to have a different person at the end charge my card for a different amount to ensure a tip. Overall, this place needs a good bleach bath, deep cleaning, new paint and pest control. Customer service training would also help. I wanted to enjoy it here badly as I live very close by and was happy to hear about mimosas being served. However, I will not return. I do not patronize dirty restaurants. Minor updates and communication can make a huge difference.
