I’ve been a student for five years and D1 has always been my go-to (and most times only) late night option. I like to think I have more patience than the average customer but I can’t recommend this place anymore. The food is expensive for the quality you get, and if you order it to go like I usually have to, they tack on a hefty delivery fee. Also, I have never met sketchier delivery personnel. I’ve had a delivery man literally hold my food hostage because I refused to tip him for delivering cold food, two hours late. He’s lucky I even paid for the cold food and ridiculous delivery fee.
I’ve had my ears blown out by waitresses screaming in the phone, generally being pretty trashy and rude but I figured I could deal with it because it’s only a short amount of time to order food. Except when you’re thrown on hold at random intervals for twice as long as your damn order... then when you’re picked back up its either someone new or the waitress “forgot” (or never wrote down) your order. The foods been slightly below average at times but it’s college so I let it slide. The prices are so ridiculous nowadays, I might as well blow the cash on actual quality food at restaurants ACTUALLY LOCATED IN MIDTOWN. Anyone who tries to tell you D1 is located in Midtown either has never been to Detroit before or is straight trying to justify gouging their prices.
Tried ordering some food today at 12:16 AM, called back at 1:20 AM (because an hour wait is the norm nowadays for an apartment two blocks North of the restaurant) and was greeted by a waitress yelling “Dine-in only, we’re not doing delivery” and was hung up on. I had to call back multiple times and had to yell over her mantra to explain that I had been waiting on a delivery that never came.

The woman taking our order was very friendly. I don't have any complaints in that area. I ordered a Gyro, my husband asked for turkey bacon on his burger and after 15 mins of waiting (the place was not packed) we were told that they were out of Turkey Bacon. (The excuse for the wait and mess ups was due to "The cooks that were working night were the weekend frying guys so they aren't really sure of what they are doing") So... my husband ordered a corned beef sandwich deluxe both of us had drinks as well. After waiting for 45 mins we got our food finally. I checked the bag there were no fries with my husband's meal and my Gyro looked as if they emptied half a bottle of cucumber sauce and said "oops, O well." The sauce was literally to much and falling out of the box. My husband's cherry Pepsi tasted like regular Pepsi and when he let the staff know that the cherry pepsi didn't taste right, they assured him it was Cherry Pepsi and nothing was wrong with it. He said ok and just dropped the subject because we have already had enough of the millions of excuses they were given. We also ordered cake. Hence me giving more than one star. Although the carrot cake looked as if it had been there for week's, the Caramel cake and Chocolate cake were actually really good (I ate half my Caramel cake while waiting on my Gyro).
*The next piece of info is what ruined everything about going back to this place when the actual cooks are in.
As we walked to our vehicle we saw A RAT, running from under our car to the car next to us. We were parked in the back parking lot. I lost my appetite...
Read moreI ordered an order of pancakes with a side of Turkey bacon well done to be delivered. I specifically told the waitress over the phone that I wanted my turkey bacon well done. When my food came, my bacon was undercooked and practically raw. I called back to address the issue and sent them a picture of the bacon. The cook claimed the bacon was cooked and that I did not say well done. LIES! The waitress apologized, but asked me what I wanted them to do. I requested a refund or to have another order of bacon sent to me. She said they were busy and she would take my name down and the next time I come in, I can ask for a manager named Joe and I would get a free order. I will see if they will keep their word, because if they don't, it shows that they do not value their customers and they have poor management. Some people in the restaurant industry think that their customers are expendable and expect us to accept anything. If they truly cared, they would realize that we as customers are keeping their businesses afloat. Folks will lie just to cheat you out of money and think they are getting away with it. They will get what they deserve sooner or later; not all customers would have taken it as well as I did. Too bad I wasn't dining in because I would have walked right out of their establishment without giving them one thin dime and left my entire order including that raw bacon sitting right...
