I started not to go here for lunch because as much as I like this place and missed the spuds, (I hadn't order their taco spud in quite some time) the parking is tough you have to get a spot at a meter but I thought I was lucky as there was an available meter space today. I should have kept going!!!! NO FRESH VEGETABLES!!!! I've loved the spuds and taco spud for years since it was The Potato Factory!!!!! The picture in the restaurant when you order is the same as I remembered but the potato I received was nothing like the picture of what I ordered or what I was expecting. My order had sautéed red peppers, possibly with green peppers and onions. It was a sautéed blend with huge tomato pieces on top. Why not tell your customers that there is no longer fresh green peppers or onions on the potato. This should not be a surprise this potato looked like a red and orange mess. Disgusting. It was very disappointing. Plus I realized the change after I made it back to work and there was no time to take the potato back. Disrespectful! I called to ask about the vegetables thinking maybe they gave me the wrong potato and the party on the line stated that is how it comes now with sautéed (overly sautéed to me seemed they were from a frozen bag) vegetables. She didn't seem to care there was customer shock. Smh! If you are charging me $14.00 for a potato at least tell me you've changed the ingredients instead of having the photo of what it used to be on the wall menu. Just awful! A waste of money and time. I would have ordered something else. Instead I was left with a potato with from frozen vegetables, chunk tomatoes, cheese and ground beef. Just horrible also since we are here the young lady taking my order just assumed I wanted mixed cheese. She never asked what type of cheese. But listening to other patrons I guess they don't ask what kind of cheese you want; the person taking the order just picks the cheese for you unless you know to tell them what type of cheese you want. Just a change to an an old favorite. Smh! Just sad. I wanted my money back or at least another order. I won't be back. Too many tricks and changes. The picture on the wall menu should look like the awful potato they serve now not the potato from the past. Do better potato place. Wondering are they under new cut corner management. Allot was different. Ask clarifying questions because the pictures may not reflect the order you receive....
Read moreThe menu has changed, 90% of what they had is now gone! I won’t be back! they’ll be out of business soon! New menu is DRY !
Update: I gave my review before ate the potato. I literally have been coming to this place since college (I attended WSU in the late 90’s)& as I stated the new menu is BOLD. My friend above (as they replied to my review stated) is actually my daughter. Whom of which has been accompanying me her ENTIRE LIFE she’s now 24, I use to set her car seat on top of those 3-4 little wobbly wooden tables that was in there as we waited. She & I would be the perfect ones to state the quality of the menu & the quality of that terrible potato & toppings that was microwaved so long the topping & the skin on the potato was HARD & CRUNCHY, also the garlic butter was literally nonexistent & the potatoes had absolutely no flavor. But as you can see instead of replying respectfully they replied with a rude demeanor. Now let’s add that the customer service has accompanied the quality of the food & went down hill as well. The new menu options still suck no matter how you try to justify it or regardless of the date of the menu she posted. And as a long time customer I WONT BE BACK. I wish you the best of luck with that menu & with your responses to your real life reviews from real longtime customers. And yes sometimes less is more but this time you’re less is actually JUST LESS! $35 for 2 potatoes with only 4 toppings each & chicken that was absolutely disgusting thankfully it wasn’t but 3-4 pieces of it on the potatoes we ordered I was able to...

Generally my powers of restaurant observation usually rival that of a gastronomical Sherlock Holmes, or so say my friends, but this place has managed to slip past my peripheral vision for the better part of 15 years and I cant fathom why. Nestled snugly across the street from Barnes & Nobles on Warren Ave. in the WSU district this is a gem of a find.
Being both a native Detroiter and graduate of WSU I am equal parts ashamed and embarrassed that it took me this long and by means of a suburbanite friend to find this place. All chagrin aside, the place is absolutely wonderful. The broccoli and cheese spud I ordered clocked in at a mammoth 2.5 pounds of starch infused goodness. You'd think these things were genetically engineered for deliciousness if your conscious mind didn't tell you different. The toppings were fresh and well cared for, and the potato itself........well there are some things no labs can duplicate (at least not yet). The average pricing may seem slightly skewed (ranging from 5 to about 9 dollars) cause after all what are we talking about here.
Again lemme reiterate
2.5 POUNDS OF POTATO!!!!!!
Let's also not forget to mention the multitude of toppings and variety that they offer. Corned Beef, Lamb and even a Taco variety that I'm not nearly adventurous enough to brave. The menu is nicely rounded out with other similar lunch time staples (salads, sandwiches and smoothies), though the only star I can see in this sky is one shaped like a cloud..
What the hell was I thinking.....oh yeah I was in college,...
