I am not (NOT) one to complain about service (I am a service worker myself and have, like any other, been frustrated by customers' expectations and requests). Similarly, never have I ever written a review in my life, let alone a negative one. However, I can't stand when people are rude to my mom.
My mother and I visited the Dewey Post to get coffee and maybe do some (very) light work. Not being locals, we did not immediately realize that this was more of a restaurant than a cafe. My mother, still under the impression that she might be able to finish some administrative tasks before we got on the road, asked the hostess, politely, if we might have a table slightly bigger than a two-top. I am not one to ascribe ill intent to others, but the response given, "Do you see how small we are?" came across as though my mother's request was rude when she was merely under-informed. Other parties of two were seated in booths, and an incoming party was told to sit wherever they wanted. If no larger tables were available, a "no" would have sufficed.
It was clear that we were amongst some locals with whom the staff were familiar. I get it. It's more fun to serve people that you know. But a cursory, "You good?" as a staff member walked past our table without waiting for an answer did not alleviate the feeling that we were an imposition as opposed to people eating some sandwiches. I found myself refraining from asking for anything additionally and running the risk of annoying folks further. But, maybe our waiter was just particularly spaced out and the hostess having a bad day. Still no reason to take it out on my mom.
Service was quick, the prices fair, the bathrooms wet, and the coffee fine. Maybe the pastries (which looked delicious) are better than the handhelds. The "post-style" chicken sliders and home fries lacked seasoning but were otherwise fine. You won't miss out on the chicken salad sandwich. My overall impression was that this restaurant was like any other "elevated" brunch place, down to the navy and white striped walls and distressed wood.
I would suggest to those visiting this establishment in the future that they opt for carry-out, because it was made abundantly clear, at least to me, that the staff don't want you there. I'm glad these folks are doing well and get a lot of service, but maybe they shouldn't shame people for wanting to eat at...

The Dewey Post not only welcomes four-legged companions with open arms (and often, a fresh bowl of water!), but it also serves up one of the most delightful brunches I've had the pleasure of enjoying.
From the moment we arrived with our pup, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, ensuring there was ample space on their charming patio for us to comfortably dine. The relaxed, convivial atmosphere is perfect for a lazy weekend morning, and seeing other happy dogs lounging about only adds to the Post's unique charm.
Now, let's talk about the food! The Dewey Post truly shines with its brunch offerings. While the entire menu is tempting, the Chicken and Waffles are an absolute must-try. Read moreDuring my 5 mile run while vacationing at Dewey Beach, I noticed a line of people waiting to get into this quaint cafe. I was determined to find out what the fuss was about the next morning. It was cold and rainy, so I shouldn’t have been surprised to wait about 15 minutes for a table for two. I was surprised, however by such an amazing dining experience. Simply the best chicken and waffles that I have ever had in my entire life. And I’ve eaten plenty of them. The waffles were absolutely incredible. I likened them to a glazed cake donut in taste. I’ve never eaten a waffle ever that didn’t need any syrup. I joked with our wonderful sever Jody that these waffles were the “Krispy Kreme donuts of waffles.” I’m not sure I’ll be able to eat them again elsewhere. Oh yeah, the fried chicken tenders were just as good. Very large pieces fried to a golden brown color and very well seasoned. This was an AAA+++ breakfast that I won’t soon forget. The Dewey Post is a must stop during your Dewey Beach vacation. This will be a staple of all of our future visits...
