My policy is that when I go to a restaurant and the restaurant acts as if they are doing me a favor by seating and serving me then I don't go back. Woody's just ain't that great and I ain't going back for the reasons I list below.
Parking sucks. "It's Dewey" yeah and parking for Woody's sucks about the worst in the entire town.
Charm? No. Woody's is a run down shopping center like storefront. It's not at all charming. But we all know "it's Dewey" right? I noticed that the other true Iconic Dewey Beach establishments are being kept up. They must have newer younger owners who are investing for the future. Starboard has charm, The Bottle & Cork has charm, even Jimmy's has local charm. Woody's is just run down. I also was left with the impression that they are riding the coat-tails of Woody's in North East. Maybe it's just the same name? Whatever the case the other Woody's is great, a real Chesapeake crab house, not this one.
Expensive. Oh but prices are high everywhere. Not $50 per person expensive everywhere for a run down storefront restaurant with average food.
The "best in the world" or whatever their claim is for their crab cake is a huge exaggeration. The crab cake is about average for a restaurant that makes their own (vs a restaurant supply store). Nothing special. I had the crabcake sandwich and the cake was less like a pattie and more like a crab salad. It's not bad, it's just not that great. Certainly not the best at Delaware beaches or "down the ocean" in OC.
Here are the No's that I encountered. No Reservations, your entire party must be present to get in line even in March when half of the tables are empty. No you can't split a check. No you shouldn't say anything to the owner because he becomes irate and will throw you out. I was warned by members of our party (locals) - don't say anything or even look at him!
There are hundreds of other charming restaurants along Rt 1 that offer good food at a reasonable prices, a welcoming atmosphere, reasonably easy parking, and truly good signature dishes. There are hundreds of other restaurants that don't have a manager or owner or whatever he is with the reputation of "going off" on customers.
Now for the good things:
The bartender was friendly and provided fast service with a good pour from the tap. Even the table service for drinks was timely.
They have a good selection of sandwiches and salads other than crab cakes. Take-out if they do it would be better than dining in I think.
3.Table service was prompt and the order was accurate. They earned a star from me on this one.
The manager did not go off on anyone while...

Wow!!!! Our First time Here, We came in on a Friends Recommendation and Almost never go on friends’ recommendations because they’re almost always wrong but let me tell you, There’s no place like Woody’s!!!!
Our server Maddie was out of this world, she was so Helpful making recommendations about everything we were curious about trying, We couldn’t have been more fortunate to have such an all-star, We’ve owned restaurants and a Bed and Breakfast, And I can tell you anyone would be blessed beyond words to have a Maddie Working for them, She really handled the floor and treated all your guests like gold, We’ll be sure to ask for Her again and she really made the experience exceptional, I would promote Her and give Her every opportunity towards management and a rewarding future as you could because she was unbelievable and Us two guys from Pennsylvania were so fortunate to have Had Her as Our server
Now onto the crab cakes They’re Huge!!!! And not just that, they’re succulent, super tender, and really set the bar for what crab cakes should and could be but almost never are so if you’re ever talking to someone and they try telling you you’ve got to go try some place for crab cakes, tell them they shouldn’t even talk to you about crab cakes unless they’ve had Woodys because they don’t know crab cakes unless they’ve had these, They are worth every penny, Splirge and buy the two, They’re really a bargain and comparable to what you pay for crab cakes with all filler anywhere else, these have literally none!!!! I can’t imagine a better presentation, We got there they were full, and let me tell you by the time we left there was a line out the door in the freezing cold and now I know why, with service like Maddie and Food Like Woody’s it doesn’t get any better than this or a more perfect combination anywhere else, You’ve got to make this very special place a Tradition, I know we will and just did from Here on Out, I can’t imagine a trip back from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where we wouldn’t be coming in Looking forward to this, because it was really...
Read moreYesterday I had gazpacho soup at a restaurant in Celebration, Florida. It was not good. But let me tell you about the best gazpacho soup I have ever had. And I mean, ever!
It was right here at Woody’s and this is what I wrote soon after I left the restaurant with my cat Kayla in her stroller. And yes, pets are welcomed too! —- It was a hot day. It was a hot night. My first time in this cute set of little towns in Delaware.
And the best thing about being there was discovering the best Gazpacho-Crab soup I’ve ever had!
It was soooooo, sooooo good, I couldn’t stop talking about it.
It was soooo, sooo good, I haven’t stop eating soup. Even at 101° temp like it was today!
I’ve had Gazpacho soup... and during hot days, nothing is more refreshing than a cooling Gazpacho soup which your senses confuse with a soothing waterfall in form of a cocktail!
So if you like Bloody Marys, you will love, Gazpacho... and if you like Gazpacho and don’t live anywhere near Dewey Beach, you’re up the creek without a paddle.
And that means, you only have two choices. You can put on a chefs hat (or apron will do) and get ready to rumble.. because making Gazpacho is as easy as making soup can be. All you need is a good recipe and some crab meat and you’ll have your guests craving for more!
Or you can just take a weekend and treat yourself not only to Dewey Beach but the outstanding Rehoboth & Lewes Beaches. And trust me when I tell you, Rehoboth Beach, you will love and the Ferry Ride too!
As to the rest of the menu, well, what can I say... I also had the lump crab meat. But sorry to say, serving not as pictured... much, much smaller, even smaller than what you may think an appetizer should be.
Meanwhile, I should’ve had three more cups of the Gazpacho-Crab soup.
Or four.
Or five.
Or... Now I wonder if I should just move there! It...
