While a Nashville native, my wife of almost 15 years grew up in Dickson County. Needless to say, our travels have brought us through dowtown Dickson. Of course, House Blend is always a town favorite and frequent stop, but if I had my druthers, Pumphery & Beard is a better stop all around. The space is wonderfully decorated. It feels like Central Perk from TV's Friends, but somehow lighter (maybe because the fourth wall is floor to ceiling windows allowing for natural light to come in.) But ambience is only one thing you come to a coffee shop for. The other is the coffee and the third is the food.
In full disclosure, I am a reformed Starbucks fanatic. Recently I have had to venture out to find places for an extrovert to work remotely, mainly coffee shops, so I have discovered the errors of my palette. That being said, I am by no means an expert, but I will say, their coffee is a delight. Perfectly roasted and very flavorful.
Lastly, the food at P&B is awesome. The menu is far more extensive than HB. I had the popular breakfast burrito (nicely recommended by the staff I might add) and it did not disappoint. I had the sausage in mine. I don't know where they are sourcing their sausage, but it is an absolutely amazing blend of herbs and spices that is quite different from any I have tried. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and there was a nice crisp to the tortilla wrap holding in all of this goodness. The hash potatoes served with it were also fantastic and different! So delicious!
I will definitely be working this in to my rotation. Wish they would move closer to my house, but I'd make a special...
Ā Ā Ā Read more3rd Edit: Having to edit 3 times may lead one to think an establishment may be inconsistent. Let me brief by saying I regularly come to Dickson to visit but I'm not a daily patron, so I understand staffing and supplies may vary between visits. I was contacted by the owner after my initial review change, and they kindly requested more information. I appreciated their contact to better understand the concerns and later decided to stop in again. I decided to call ahead to see if there would be live music in the early morning to which they replied with the event schedule. My mom and I hustled to the shop where we were met with unwavering friendly service, and wildly improved food and coffee. With confidence, I will rate as a 4, but in my experience, it ranges between a 3 & 5.
I've had to update my review for 2 reasons. The first being: quality of food and drink have deteriorated dramatically in the last six months or so- supremely disappointing since this used to be the best coffee in town. The second, and I might be alone in this but loud live music BEFORE coffee at 9-10am is alot. I've heard comments from others in the coffee shop stating it's very overestimating- and I agree. The talent and music is GREAT but can we all agree timing is key?? As for myself, I love a low key morning just chatting with a friend and sipping on coffee. A live acoustic guitar, something mellow would be far superior to "who let the dogs out" at 9:30am. Truly these are talented musicians, just save the loud vocals for a more appropriate time like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCome for the coffee, not the food. We got a pour over and a cortado. The cortado was fine, it seems like maybe they used a darker roast than they should have for a cortado. My pour over was good- I wasn't given any bean options but I really liked the dark roast they used for it. The food was definitely the downfall, did not at all resemble the photos or really even the ingredients listed. Avocado toast came out with super brown avocado that definitely tasted rotten, only had pickled onions (no greens or olive oil and i added the pepper once it got to the table) and they forgot my fried egg ($2 up-charge for 1 fried egg) but they did bring that out when i let them know it was missing. It was supposedly on sourdough but I think it was more of just a sliced white bread. Breakfast burrito wasn't anything to ride home about but it was nice that they have vegan sausage substitute. I would just skip the food and only get coffee. I will say it seems like they may be running short staff. In total, before tip, it was $39 for two coffee drinks and our food.
I wish i liked this place more because the atmosphere really is super chill with lots of natural light- potential to be a great spot. Based on the other reviews, it's a bummer to see the owner arguing with folks on their experience that seems to be a consistent experience for customers, so I'm hoping this review doesn't get that same response as it was our...
