We'd first visited this wonderful shop when the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad (GSMR) excursion we'd booked stopped in Dillsboro some years back. This small town is a joy to visit, and we're so glad to have discovered the Dillsboro Chocolate Factory that we've been going back every year since when staying at a cabin in Asheville. The relaxing drive is so scenic, and we always load up on copious amounts of their hand crafted delights. I'd bought a few of their coffee roasts (whole bean) during our latest visit, and it was some of the best I'd ever experienced. These weren't presented on their website, so I called them and they graciously accommodated my request after having to call me back due to having to serve the visiting GSMR train passengers from one of this season's first runs to the town. I received the package just a few days later ... which included numerous packs of insanely tasty jerky that I'd smartly included in my order ... and was really impressed with how professionally packed it was. Anyone who likes great chocolate delicacies should surely take the time to visit if they're in the area, and if you happen to also appreciate top-craft roasted coffee beans too,...
Read moreWhile this place has amazing fudge and the coffee was actually a decent flavor be prepared to wait for your items. I waited about 40 minutes for a half pound of fudge and two coffees. There were only 4 people ahead of me. There was only one person working the entire store. She was responsible for chocolate, fudge and coffee sales as well as packaging the products on a Saturday afternoon.
There is no excuse for them to only have one staff working. No management was visible or even in the building. No back up, this girl was the only person working in the entire place. She also wasn’t fully stocked and had to go back for bags and open chocolate sauce for our coffee. She also said that apparently her working alone was common because she made more tips while alone. The company needs to do better to make sure their staff is supported and not left alone. She was clearly stressed trying to manage everyone knowing how long everyone was waiting.
This completely threw off our schedule and really spoiled our day. We will not...
Read moreCoffee is Ok. A bit on a bitter side. Chocolates are wonderful. Need to wash and paint their entrance door. And windows need to be painted as well. Piling paint in a coffee shop is not healthy. Someone wrote a year ago that they are understaffed with one person working on 2 cash registeres selling both coffee and chocolates. And the place replied that they hire more people during the peak season. We visited on an afternoon in July. It was still 1 person doing both things. However, she was very quick and professional. And when more customers arrived someone from the "back office" (who had been working making chocolates) came and offered help! This was great. By the way, you can see how they make chocolates. This is fascinating. Though they take/touch peacans with their bare hands before they dip them in warm chocolate to cover it with chocolate. Looks...
