Exceptional, as always. My wife and I have eaten here multiple times and have not a thing negative to say. The BBQ is beyond delicious. North Carolina pumps out some good BBQ and Haywood Smokehouse is a credit to the reputation. We live over an hour and a half away and whenever we find ourselves in the area, a visit to Haywood Smokehouse is always on our to-do list. My go-to food order is the Sliced pork, baked beans and the potato salad with sweet tea….Ooo My-Lanta this is some good food(and the sweet tea is on point…as a Southerner, this is a crucial detail ;) ). They really have hit the nail on the head. BBQ may or may not be to everyone’s taste…and that’s ok but Haywood Smokehouse has nothing to apologize for. If you’re looking to ruin your diet or test out your insulin pump, this is the place to stop worrying about calories, points or portions….this is some shut-your-mouth-and-eat kind of serious. Come hungry and leave in a food coma….have a friend slap you in the face so you can wake up and eat some more. Even my finicky-eating 3 year old daughter stuffs her face without hesitation. I couldn’t be prouder; “Kid tested. Dad approved.” If you’re looking to prolong your culinary marathon but are all “pigged-out”, I recommend the Banana pudding; the insulin shock is worth it in every sense of the word. My only advice would be order a second order to-go because I guarantee you you’ll find yourself sitting in front of the TV later in the evening with a sudden hankering for more. Ask me how I know. Don’t put yourself through that and just take some home with you. I saw another review ding the restaurant over parking. Yeah, the parking available is small but that’s not anything to do with the restaurant. The Dillsboro location is located within a grouping of historical structures and parking across the board for any of the businesses can be a little tricky…if you can’t find a spot right next to the restaurant, drive around the block and there are spots along the street or in the adjacent gravel lot.

I'll be honest and admit this was not my first choice of restaurant to stop at on a all day drive through the mountains. Not because I thought it was bad. I LOVE BBQ and had plans to eat BBQ the following day. I actually planned on stopping at the restaurant right next door to this one. But, they were closed for renovations. Boy was I glad they were. We were greated with a rustic country interior full of charm. Got seated immediately. I ordered the 2 meat combo of pulled pork and brisket. With a side of cole slaw and baked beans. My wife ordered the sliced turkey with baked beans and collards. The brisket was so tender and juicy and full of flavor I could have ordered another helping. Pulled pork was delicious as well. Smoked perfectly full of flavor a juices. With a wide variety of bbq sauces ranging from east carolina vinegar and pepper based. To Georgia fire hot tomato based. I found my favorite to be a strawberry chipotle. (I know. Sounds kinda weird and gross. But, don't knock it till you try it.) So good. My wife had 3 HUGE thick cut slices of Turkey. That I was lucky she couldn't finish the last sliced and offered it to me. Again, it was smoked perfectly. Tender, juicy and full of flavor. Pair well with the strawberry chipotle sauce. And, as if we were not stuffed enough already. We topped it off with dessert. I had the banana pudding that was the size of my head. It was delicious. My wife ordered the bourbon chocolate pecan pie. I didn't have room to try it. But, she said it was warm melty and oh so good. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you are traveling through Dillsboro, NC. You will not be disappointed.

I have nothing bad to say... but I will point out some real positives. When you go to a BBQ pithouse you have expectations, and mine started with my early years in Texas. They claimed to be Texas good and they were. Not everything I've seen in a Texas old fashioned restaurant was there but there was enough and the key to it all is their nicely smoked Brisket. We moved to Florida from Texas and most the places we can find in central Florida don't stand up to Texas standards. Haywood Smokehouse has some good enough Brisket to make a Texan respect it and you don't want to put any sauces on this stuff, because that would be a crime. You may be tempted to order something else besides Brisket, but if you're a Brisket lover than don't bother with the rest of the menu! I will add pictures of the menu that are from October 2, 2025 for reference. The pictures are from our lunch and they show how nicely they sliced the Brisket, because too thin and you lose the moist juces that are then just flowing to the plate... nice and thick here. The "Burnt Ends Baked Beans" are just what you think they are, with brisket ends chopped into them, very nice. The fries were double fried for a crispier texture. You probably won't have room for desert, and that would be a shame, so be sure to get the Southern Banana Pudding to go so you don't miss out. Comfortable atmosphere perfectly suited to a Texas style smokehouse. We will be going back for more... after we finish the pound of brisket we ordered to take home. Ignore the fact that I nibbled off a fair bit of that before I too the picture of the to go brisket!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Haywood Smokehouse, and let me tell you, it was a flavor-packed experience that left me craving more. Nestled just outside of Sylva, this hidden gem proved to be a carnivore's paradise.

I opted for the chopped pork platter, and it was a decision I didn't regret. The pork was expertly smoked, achieving that perfect balance of tenderness and smokiness. The flavorful bark on the outside gave way to succulent, melt-in-your-mouth goodness on the inside. Each bite was a testament to the skill and dedication of the pitmasters at Haywood Smokehouse.

To accompany the star of the show, I chose the burnt ends beans, and they were nothing short of spectacular. The beans were rich and hearty, with the burnt ends adding a delightful crunch and an extra layer of smokiness. The combination was a match made in barbecue heaven.

The rustic ambiance of the restaurant provided the perfect backdrop for this culinary delight. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming atmosphere.

I was so impressed with my meal that I had to sit down and savor every bite. The portions were generous, ensuring that I left fully satisfied but already planning my next visit. The thoughtfully curated menu offers a variety of barbecue options, making it a haven for meat enthusiasts.

As I was visiting a friend who had just purchased a cabin in the area, I can confidently say that Haywood Smokehouse will be a regular stop for me whenever I'm in the vicinity. If you're a barbecue lover or just someone looking for an exceptional dining experience, do yourself a favor and make your way to Haywood Smokehouse. Your taste buds...
