Read moreMy parents came down from Orlando to celebrate my son's 14th birthday. We wanted to go to Mondongo's so bad since we haven't been there in years. My dad was craving the Mondongo and I was craving the the bandeja paisa, which they call it the Tipico. I requested that instead of shredded meat(carne molida) I wanted the steak. The waiter insisted that nothing could be done, that I couldn't switch. My mom asked that we would pay the difference if they can add the steak, and the waiter insisted saying that it was rules by the restaurant that nothing could be switched or done. I was livid! I was furious. We stayed only because my dad wanted his Mondongo. Long story short, when they brought the food, My mom, son and my husband gave me half of their steaks and I ended up getting what I wanted. I gave the shredded meat to my mom. I didn't want to take away from their food but they were nice enough to share it. My son noticed that the waiter would pass by at times and noticed that I was eating steak after all. Basically we will not be back. When you go to a restaurant you go with that appetite of what you want and not what they want. We have had better Colombian food elsewhere and get what we want. A restaurant is supposed to please the customer, we are the...

If you want to experience colombian food at its best, this is the place. They are the Miami branch of a Medellin based restaurant chain. I have been in one of the Medellin reataurants and I prefer the food from the Miami branch!
To drink... Colombia... tropical fruits... natural juice! Passion fruit is not that exotic, if you have not had it... try it! try lulo (loolo) or mora. Yes, they have been, etc... but you will be missing out.
The food... "tipico" is a two plates dish (served at the same time), one plate is a red beans soup (my favorite), the second plate brings: white rice, beef (tip: 2 options, you want the beef fillet), fried egg, half plantain deep fried (ripe, so its sweet), boiled potato and deep fried pork crackling (with meat in it, not only skin and fat).
Desert? Ask for milo (pronounced meelo)
The restaurant is named after the other house specialty, but it is not for the faint of heart. The second time around, if you feel adventurous go for Mondongo, (no, it is not even remotely related mofongo).
Many people recommend the fish, have not had it, cant...
