It’s been about 3 weeks and I haven’t seen Finn-look-alike associate since. However, two nights ago, another cashier started a strange conversation. He also was young, but much taller and soft-spoken. Before I go into this second incident, let me give you a little more background info. I am not a gamer, and while I am aware of what Super Mario is, I don’t consider myself a fan of the franchise (kudos to those who do enjoy it) Also, I was wearing a button-down collared blouse and khaki pants- my typical work clothes. No jewelry and I never bring in my purse inside the store. So, I wasn’t wearing anything that would indicate that I was a Mario fan or a fan of anything pop culture related. Anyways, It was a bit busy that night, so I had a hard time understanding every word this guy said but this is basically how the conversation went: SSG = Soft spoken guy; Me = Me SSG: (as he started scanning my items) Have you heard about the latest tragedy? Me: (not sure if I heard him right) What? SSG repeated the question Me: Uhhhh….no, what? SSG: Chris Pratt is playing Mario in (insert some type of upcoming Super Mario movie) Me: um, ok. So what? (of all the actual tragedies that have been going on in the world, I was not expecting this) This part of the conversation is a bit fuzzy as he started talking rapidly but still a bit too softly for my hearing. Essentially, he went into this whole spiel about how Mario is his favorite character and blah, blah, blah. Then he hit me with another question SSG: You know who I think they should get to play him [Mario]? Shaquille O'Neal! And you know why? Me: (just silently waiting for an answer) SSG: because, you know how Shaquille can shoot hoops really far? And Mario throws fireballs, so you won’t even have to do CGI! At this point, I have already inserted my card, paid and removed my card and he had thankfully managed to bag my items while going on and on about a movie I could care less about. As I pocketed my card and took my bag off the counter SSG chuckled and said: Just kidding, have a nice day! As I walked away, I couldn’t help but say out loud how this was the second strangest conversation I have had at a Wawa. Wawa, I’m not exactly complaining as both associates were polite and did their jobs, but seriously, what is going on? Is there some sort of social experiment or trolling that I am...
Read moreOk, folks, fair warning- this is going to a long but bizarre tale of two recent experiences I’ve had at this particular Wawa. This isn’t a complaint, but it’s too strange for me to not post, and I am curious if other customers have had similar interactions with this store’s staff. One evening about 3+ weeks ago, I stopped by Wawa to grab a couple of drinks and snacks before heading into work (evening shift). I noted that the guy checking me out was very young and reminded me of Finn Wolfhard- pale, small build, dark eyes and curly hair- everything. The following conversation is a little bit paraphrased but for the most part accurate: Finn= cashier; Me =Me Finn: You know, it’s really important to know directions in this area Me: Umm…yeah, I guess? He repeated this sentiment a couple of times in different ways, to which I was a bit taken aback. For a split second, I thought he was talking to someone else as his manner of speech indicated that he was already in the middle of a conversation and not something you would start off with talking to a strange customer. But there was no one around me at the time due to social distancing. I just nodded and continue to give a noncommittal agreement. Then suddenly he asked me: Finn: Are you from here? Me (I considered lying for simplicity’s sake but decided against it): Ye- uh, well, not originally. But I’ve been here for a while. Finn: Oh, if you don’t mind me asking, how long have you lived here? Me: about 10 years Finn: So if I were to ask you if you know where ‘A’ Street and ‘B’ Ave is, would you know? Me: Oh yeah, I know where that is. At this point I had already inserted and removed my card Finn repeated once again something along the lines of how important it is to know your way. Wanting to remain polite, I smiled and said, “Yeah, especially when the same roads have 2-3 different names. Take care.” I'm going to post the second conversation in a different review due to...
