Spizzigo — Restaurant in Doral

I was in the Doral area and wanted to try a different spot. Found Spizzigo and we arrived before I ready any Yelp reviews. I will say based off of everything I read, they have fixed any issues and now warn you about the bottled water and bread. At least our server did. So don't go solely based off of that.

The restaurant is not large but they also have outdoor seating. We sat inside and we're seated right away. To drink I ordered their specialty berry mojito and it was sweet but good. You could taste the alcohol in it.

To eat I ordered a saporita pizza (meat lovers) which I feel is large enough to split amount two people but since I'm a huge pizza fan I ate it all myself. The pizza is more thin crust New York style which I loved because it doesn't fill you up as much. My wife ordered the pear pizza with honey which was also very good but too sweet for my taste. She loved it though. Our friends ordered the Hawaiian and also loved it. The ingredients tastes fresh and the pizza was cooked to a perfect light golden brown.

The servers were friendly and our food was brought out in a timely manner. I even saw the owner working and bringing plates to the tables.

As a Yelp member once you check in, it gives you the option of a free desert (tiramisu). However the restaurant refused to honor it. We were full either way so I wasn't going to argue but I did tell the owner when we were leaving that he should remove it if he's not going to honor it. It's misleading but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, hopefully it was an honest mistake and he removes it.

Last night my partner and I went there for dinner. In summary, the food was very good and would give that itself 4 stars, but because the service was the worst I have ever experienced, they deserve 1 star by my standards. The wait staff was very unattentive. We were sitting at the table for about 5 minutes with our menus down before the wait staff came to take our order. We asked for water and after finishing my glass of water, I left it sitting empty for 10 minutes on the corner of the table. They kept walking by and didn't even bother to fill it. More important than that, which was the most upsetting thing, my partner's meal was brought out about 10 minutes before my meal was brought out. Initially we were told it will be right out. However that was not the case. After sitting there about 8 minutes and no further follow-up from the wait staff, I called them over and told them to cancel my order. The wait staff said it was in the process of being made (a salad), that it will be just 2 more minutes and asked if I still wanted it. I said at this point I guess so. While I got a half-hearted apology, you can tell that they really did not care. My suggestion for anybody who's looking for a good Italian restaurant with reasonably good service and reasonably good prices, do not go here, save yourself the trouble of getting bad service and go elsewhere!! Food is good(it was better before but, still tasty) however few things makes this place not to really happens: 1- ILEGAL- you won’t be allowed to have tap water if you need to. By Florida law all establishments should be able to provide at least tap water for whoever asks. There, they won’t provide to force you to buy their water: A BIG( not small) and expensive water bottle. That’s very smart, unfair and disrespectful to customers.

2- Service. The employees are always hanging around, chatting and you will always feel like you are bothering them when calling. They won’t be disrespectful to you but you will definitely feel the attitude. That’s being going on for a while.

3- The atmosphere is loud and messy. That’s not only bc of the place itself that seems to be remodeling but specially bc a bar place next to them. The bar is a low level one, with a absurdly loud music overtaken all the other restaurants around.

4- the food was better before but they have changed things around and management and food went down a little in quality and portion sizes. The prices are very overpriced too. It is a price of a Fancy restaurant in Coral Gables or downtown… not in a joint in Doral, with a regaton...
