La Barca Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in Downey

Had never been here but was pleasantly surprised. I had every intention of ordering from the menu, but as it turns out they have a buffet Monday through Friday. My husband went for the buffet right away, but I wanted to check it out before I committed. I was not disappointed. Everything I tasted was delicious. I started with shrimp ceviche....super good and then shrimp cocktail. Only thing missing was some avocado, but it was still good. I sampled a little bit of everything, except the menudo and posole. My husband had two helpings of menudo......that told me it was good. Most times many dished at a buffet are just mee, but I have to say, this place did not disappoint. Everything was excellent, from the mole to the chilaquiles, to the bbq pork riblets, they even had hand made corn tortillas. One of my favorite dishes was the folded enchiladas. They were superb. The only thing that was missing was a good dessert selection, but I was so full at the end that it didn't matter. My husband and I shared s freshly made waffle with some syrup....that made for a delicious unexpected dessert. I highly recommend this place. Hats off to the chef for making s delicious...

El domingo pasado llegamos a comer al restaurante La Barca grill cantina ( realmente suponíamos que era " La birrieria la Barca " a donde queríamos ir.) EL hno Jesse pidió in plato de birria de chivo, hna Lupita podio una carne tlalpiqueña ( creó) y yo pedí una carne asada, cuando nuestra orden llegó, el hno Jesse me ofreció probar la birria a lo cual acepte, tenía buen sabor el caldo, la carne no la probé porque no pude cortar parecía que esta dura el hno Jesse empieza a comer y dice; la carne esta dura, a lo que conteste si, por eso no la probé, no pude cortar un pedazo, mi carne también estaba dura, sin sabor y demasiados nervios, le comenté. Seguimos comiendo e inmediatamente el hno Jesse dice; me " estoy ahogando" volteamos a verlo Lypita y yo, y yo le pregunte; esta bromeando hno? y volvió a decir; me estoy ahogando yo reacione y Lupita le dio palmadas en la espalda a lo que le dije no así no, tome al hno y lo voltee como yo sabia que tenia que hacer, el hno es robusto y mi condición física no ayudaba, todos, incluyendo meseros y comensales se quedaron literalmente paralizados, mi fuerza no ayudaba mucho , grite al mismo tiempo wue le aplicaba lis primeros auxilios llamen al 911 nadie reacciono , mis fuerzas no ayudaban, a lo que voltie y le dije a un hombre que estaba sentado " tú ven y ayúdame; me dijo: qué hago, le conteste lo mismo que estoy haciendo yo pero con fuerza. Todos seguían inmobiles, les grite a las meseras ustedes llamen sl 911, mientras yo alcanzaba mi teléfono para también llamar, mi teléfono tampoco no funcionó en ese momento, Lupita ya había llamado, se levantó otro comensal y ayudó, hno Jesse finalmente arrojo el bocado que lo estába asfixiando. Este hombre me dice; que el sabía dar primeris auxilios, pero tampoco reacciono inmediatamente ¿ Porqué? me preguntaba. Fui y le dije a un mesero ( después supe que era el encargado) que la carne de la birria están dura y no la pudo tragar, a lo que contestó; le diré al mesero, regrese a la mesa y el hno Jesse estuvo tomado agua y ya nadie comió, nadie se hacerlo para ver que todo estuviera bien, ningún mesero o él encargado, "NADIE" Pasaron como 20 minutos cuando finalmente el mesero que nos estaba atendiendo se hacerca y pregunta si todo estaba bien? Le conteste; hasta ahora vienes, nadie se hacer ni por cortesía le dije, él fue honesto y me dijo ; yo quise, peto tuve miedo hacerlo mal, le pregunto por el encargado de restaurante y era el mismo al que le dije que la carne esta dura, con mi mano le hice una seña para que se hacercara, y le dije, no puedo creer que nadie hizo nada, nada, nada, bueno, ni por empatía seguí diciendo nadie le llamo al 911, el mesero dijo que no llamaron porque supusieron que una de nosotros lo había hecho, deberás? pensé. Le dije lo menos que puedes hacer es cobrarnos. No cobro la birria, y rebajo 10 dolares por la inconveniencia. Cuando salimos una de las meseras traía el celular en la mano, mi expresión fue; vez, traes el teléfono en la mano y no pudieron llamar al 911. Creo que todos los trabajadores deben tomar clases de primeros auxilios. Finalmente agradecimos a Dios que todo quedo...

I get there , typical , 20 min wait . Im understanding of that , knowing its a Friday night . They call me , I go and sit , order my drinks and food , I ask for two plates of Birria . Noticed the mariachi is taking up two tables in the back and there's like only 3 of them , while theres people waiting 20min plus to sit. The waiter brings my dish and gf dish , and leaves , I still said thank you as he walked away . So there I am eating no tortillas , no veggies , no sauce for the birria . It was like if I had ordered a salad , the meat was flavorless , dry , no juice . I stopped eating my food after like 5 minutes , After 10 plus min. of waiting for any acknowledgment , the waiter comes back I asked where my tortillas and veggies , sauce? . He is like oh im sorry blah blah ! The manager comes and says sorry , I lose my appetite . Pay and left . Dont ever go here , its a waste of money , they distract people with the mariachi and beer from the Food. Which is sad. Go to the other La Barca Jalisco that one is at least a 4...
